Music at Paxton has proudly supported exceptional young musicians since its inception, working closely with Live Music Now Scotland. As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations this year, Arunda Wind Trio and Music at Paxton are putting on a free one-hour taster concert ‘Music at Paxton…Plus’ at 2.30pm on Sunday 17 May, suitable for all the family. This concert is a perfect introduction to chamber music, and as its free there really is no excuse not to pop along for an hour to enjoy a special performance by three of Scotland’s finest young musicians.
Live Music Now works with a very diverse range of people that rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to experience live music - some of whom are very disadvantaged. They often face difficulties in communicating, cut off from the joy and pleasures of participating and sharing with others. LMN's approach to overcoming these barriers is through the quality of their musicians and the way they deliver their music. LMN selects young, professional musicians who combine exceptional performing skills with special qualities of insight, generosity of spirit and flexibility. We enhance their skills through our distinctive approach to training and performance, and send them out into the community to perform for older people and children with special educational needs across the UK.
This concert is an opportunity to see, for free, Scottish based Arunda Wind Trio who explore new repertoire and enjoy bringing some of the lesser known works to the concert platform. As well as being passionate about chamber music, the members of the trio are dedicated orchestral players and play regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra of Scottish Ballet. Members of the trio have shown their versatility by taking to the stage for some Musical Theatre or recording for bands such as Belle and Sebastian.
This year, supported by Gavin McEwan in memory of his late father, Arunda Wind Trio (Sarah Cruickshank, oboe, Jenny Stephenson, clarinet and Anna Mary Lynch, bassoon) perform summery music by Rossini, Mozart and Tansman. You can make an afternoon of it with Sunday lunch beforehand in the stables Tearoom or afternoon tea afterwards. Please note that Sunday lunch must be pre-booked by 11 May and 8 June respectively (full details and booking, telephone 01289 386905).
