espeare is coming to the Northumberland Coast as one of the Bard’s greatest plays is retold in an outdoor performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream at Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island on Saturday 17th August.
It’s Midsummer night. An enchanted forest. Puck and his musical fairy band tell a tale of lovers, mechanicals, and magical mayhem. Travelling theatre company The Pantaloons stop off at the castle to offer their take on this timeless comedy on the Castle’s headland - told, as ever, in their own distinctive and anarchic style.
The Pantaloons are a young, vibrant theatre company whose style draws from a wide variety of popular theatre traditions from commedia dell'arte and clowning to stand-up comedy and silent movies. In their theatre, the audience’s imagination is just as important as the players. The show promises plenty of fun for all ages.
Claire Ashby, Visitor Experience Manager for the National Trust’s Northumberland Coast properties says, “It’s the first time we have held an outdoor theatre show at the castle. It will be staged with the harbour as a backdrop behind, a magical setting for a magical play. Come and enjoy some midsummer medieval madness on an epic scale.”
The performance is open air so dress for the weather. Bring a picnic and a chair or rug to sit on. Gates open at 6.00pm and the performance starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are £12 adult and £9 child and can be booked by calling 01289 389244
