Invasion VIII at Woodhorn Sunday 23rd July 2017
Woodhorn will be the place to be if you are a lover of all things sci-fi and super hero as fans from across the region gather for the eighth annual Invasion event on Sunday 23rd July. From what began as a small gathering of enthusiasts with a handful of daleks, the event now attracts thousands of cosplayers and science fiction fans from all over the North East.
Visitors to the museum will meet all manner of characters at the event from daleks and doctors to jedis and jawas. Villains will rub shoulders with super heroes and monsters with aliens. Although not a requirement to attend the day, everyone is welcome to get into the spirit of the day by dressing up as their favourite sci-fi, comic and super hero character too.
As always there will be themed fun and games during the day with a super sci-fair and food concessions, and with so many fabulous costumed characters about, the day offers some wonderful photography opportunities. The highlight for many participants and visitors comes at the end of the afternoon when everyone comes together for one final cosmic photograph.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing my very first Invasion extravaganza,” said Woodhorn’s Chief Executive Rowan Brown. “It sounds like so much fun.
“The dedicated volunteers who organise so much of this day do a wonderful job and we’re thrilled that this year, they have decided that donations collected on the day will go to MacMillan Cancer Support and Woodhorn Charitable Trust. We’re very grateful for their support and continued hard work.”
Last year saw the event attract bumper crowds and to help deal with the expected intergalactic invasion this year, organisers have arranged additional park and ride facilities at the former Alcan/RioTinto site. Directional signposting will be in place. The first transfer to Woodhorn will be at 10am. Blue badge parking is available at Woodhorn Museum.
Admission to Invasion VIII is free (parking £3.50) and although assistance dogs are welcome to accompany their owners to the event, family pets are not permitted so visitors are advised to leave them at home. To help prepare for a visit to the event, visitors are recommended to visit the Woodhorn Museum website www.experiencewoodhorn.com and
keep up with the latest activity and information on the event section of Woodhorn’s Facebook page.
