A PR campaign for Northumbrian accommodation provider, Langley Castle Hotel, has swept to victory at the Northern Marketing Awards 2020, scooping the awards for Best PR Campaign and Best Tourism & Leisure Campaign at a virtual awards event.
The awards were two of three won by Langley Castle’s PR agency, Catapult PR, which topped the table at the annual awards, which reward top campaigns across all marketing disciplines and from agencies and in-house departments across the north, which includes parts of the Midlands.
The judges commented that Langley’s campaign, conducted before, during and after the first UK lockdown, was hugely effective, caught the eye of the Government, which included elements in its official nationwide staycation campaign in July 2020, and helped put British tourism back on its feet.
They went on to say that they were “charmed by the campaign”, which dealt with a major challenge, in the form of lockdown, but which found creative ways to overcome obstacles, whilst also delivering huge relevance.
Langley Castle and Catapult PR are delighted by this feedback and by the results they generated, with coverage appearing in over 450 publications and generating over 1000 brand mentions within articles totalling over £800,000 in value and reaching millions of people.
The business impacts were evidenced in Langley’s reception area, where visitors arrived from all over the UK, highlighting press stories that had appeared in their local or preferred national paper, which had inspired them to book.
The exposure also helped the castle achieve a 97% occupancy rate after the first lockdown, helping to support jobs at the castle, as well as spreading economic benefit around the county.
The two 2020 Northern Marketing Awards add to one NMA won by Langley Castle and Catapult PR in 2017, which was then followed by a CIPR NW PRide Award and a CIM Northern Marketing Award that year.
In May 2018, the castle’s PR campaign won the national CIPR Excellence Award for the ‘Best Travel, Leisure or Tourism’ campaign in the UK.
The dynamic duo of Langley Castle manager, Margaret Livingstone-Evans, and Catapult PR’s managing director, Jane Hunt, are adopting the same creative and pro-active approach towards marketing during the second UK lockdown as they did in the first, with much to come out in the media in the coming weeks.
Margaret says: “We are delighted to have our marketing rewarded in this way and to know that our efforts are also helping to keep the county on the tourism map. We shall continue to stay positive and work with what is possible, rather than focusing on what is not.”
Jane adds: “I am delighted to add yet another award to the roll of honour for Langley and to hear the judges’ comments and appreciation for this and our other award-winning campaign. We had to battle against some very big industry names to win these awards, proving that there is no substitute for passion, ideas and a pro-active approach.”
