Last chance to see LUX at Cragside

Last chance to see LUX at Cragside

Time is running out to see LUX, a major art exhibition at the National Trust’s Cragside in Northumberland, as the artworks are only on display until Sunday 2 November.

The exhibition has attracted over 100,000 people so far and was featured in the Guardian’s top 10 European outdoor must-see exhibitions this year.

The artworks have drawn on Cragside’s spectacular landscape and take inspiration from Lord and Lady Armstrong’s pioneering visions for the house and estate when they first moved here in 1863.

The exhibition features a flying swan in the dining room with suspended light bulbs to reference the invention of Joseph Swan’s incandescent bulb, and an apple tree with bronze cast, gold gilded apples to refer to the lengths that Victorian gardeners went to control and harness nature in the orchard house.

John O’Brien, General Manager at Cragside commented:

“We’re thrilled our visitors have had the chance to view these artworks and discover the wonders of Cragside. With only a short time left to see them, we are expecting many more visitors, especially during October half term.”

Other artworks on display include a camera obscura made by founder member of the Pogues, Jem Finer, a sound installation in the house, flickering visuals and glass sculpture drawing inspiration from Joseph Swan.
