Outdoor screenings of Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman
Alnwick Castle will be offering more than its usual kind of magic over the evenings of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August – Bank Holiday Weekend.
In Cinema under the Stars, two fabulous, smash hit musical films will be screened outdoors - Bohemian Rhapsody on the Saturday evening – and The Greatest Showman on the Sunday evening.
Under the Northumbrian skies, join friends and family for sing-along to all the legendary hit songs from these fantastic films – as loud as you want - with the help of on-screen lyrics (The Greatest Showman only).
Alnwick Castle’s Cinema under the Stars this year will combine the silliness and pure fun of karaoke with the extravaganza of classic musical cinema. And visitors in fancy dress are particularly welcome.
Bohemian Rhapsody became a box office smash around the world earlier this year. It is the action-packed, captivating story of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and convention to become one of history’s most beloved entertainers. The film follows Queen’s rise to the top, their revolutionary music and Freddie’s solo career, as well as the band’s reunion and their performance at Live Aid in 1985. Queen’s hit songs feature throughout.
The Greatest Showman, which is screened on Sunday evening 25th August at Alnwick Castle is the smash hit film musical that people can’t stop singing. Even if you haven’t seen the film before you’re bound to recognise the catchy songs. Starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson, it is inspired by the figure of P. T. Barnum, a 19th century American showman. The Greatest Showman celebrates the birth of show business as we know it and tells the tale of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
Concessions are available in the castle courtyard from 5.30pm, gates to the arena open at 6.30pm and the films will start shortly after sunset on both evenings. Bar, food and snacks are available, and music will be played before the performance. Alcohol and glass are prohibited from being brought onsite.
Bring a blanket or camping chair and watch both films on the outdoor cinema screen within the castle walls.
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. The event will go ahead if it's raining but Alnwick Castle is hoping for a nice dry night. No seating is provided unless guests have VIP tickets. No dogs are allowed.
