Overview

The Queens Head in Rothbury is a traditional old fashioned Inn in the heart of the beautiful Coquet Valley. A landmark in the village since 1780 the pub is centrally placed and within 1 minutes' walk of the river.

On the edge of the National Park and only 30 minutes drive from the Heritage coast, making us an ideal base from which to explore the natural beauty of North Northumberland and the Borders, or if shopping is your pleasure Newcastle is only 40 minutes drive away.

Outdoor pursuits in the area include  fishing, golfing, shooting, walking, climbing and cycling.  The Coquet is justly famous for its trout and salmon fishing, and other rivers are within easy reach. Rothbury has its own 18-hole golf course and there are many more in the area.

We can arrange discounted golfing and fly fishing tuition and we have cycle storage and drying  space for muddy boots. We can also arrange for cycle hire, delivered to the door and hire of all terrain buggies for children.

The hotel has 7 en suite bedrooms (including family rooms), 2 dining rooms, lounge bar and games room. There is a pleasant outdoor seating area and free parking in a private car park.

Children are always welcome and high chairs are provided, cots are available by prior arrangement.

We have a reputation for excellent food and offer a bar menu as well a full a la Carte menu. The Sunday carvery is especially popular and good value for money and if you eat nothing else you must try the bread and butter pudding, or the hot sticky ginger pudding, or the chocolate sponge pudding ...........try them all.

Bed and breakfast Twin or Double Room Rate from £60 to £80 per night.

Single occupancy from £40 per night in a twin and £50 in a double.

Family Rooms supplement £20 per extra person per night

Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal and extended break packages are available on request.

New year's eve 2 day stay.

Karen S, sunderland
Lovely stay in this hotel for 2 days ...our room was up in the gods (as we say)twin beds ..very clean and everything you needed , however a bit dated...but didn't spoil our stay . The free breakfast was amazing ,plenty of choice . Cooked to perfection the full English. Enjoyed our time there .

The Queens Head replied: Hi Karen, So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us over New Year, we hope you will be able to come and stay with us again, we will be updating all areas as soon as there is a gap in the diary. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Teresa

Two Day Christmas Break

John H,
We stayed here from the 24th Dec till 26th Dec , we had two rooms booked , room 15 , 16 , . Now the shower in one of the room did not work , you could not turn it on at all , we mentioned it to the person on reception who seemed surprised it did not work . Then on the the day we left 26th December we woke up to no heating in are rooms & the shower was cold as we But I would like to point out that the staff had no idea how to deal with the issue of the shower & no heating I got the impression they wear't botherd really Other than the issues above we enjoyed the bar meal we had on the evening of the 24th Dec.

The Queens Head replied: Hello John, So very annoyed that your issues were not dealt with, the shower does work but because of a faulty part the mechanism was bypassed until we get the new part and the plumber put a temporary fix on the side of the on/off control. The heating is set to come on at 6-30am but on the morning of the 26th there was an issue with one of our boilers as the pressure had dropped too low. Because of holiday cover a lack of communication meant that the staff on duty were not up to speed on the issues so can only apologise for the lack of empathy and customer care. Teresa

Sunday lunch is a bit of an institution

301lisa33, Coventry, United Kingdom
Sunday lunch is a bit of an institution so do book ahead. It is a carvery with generous servings. As with most carveries some items don't take well to being kept warm on the steam counters - which always seems a shame. Similarly some desserts lacked adequate attention to detail. Waitress seemed to be new but trying and well-meaning. But overall an entirely adequate lunch

Great food & service

Diane M,
We had a wonderful meal here, so good we returned the next evening. The staff were friendly, great service & the food delicious. Even the dog received special treatment with plenty of treats & loved being fussed over. Definitely worth a visit.

The Queens Head replied: Hello Diane How lovely to leave us a review and so pleased you enjoyed your meals with us during your stay in Rothbury. Thank you Teresa

Two night stay

sowie, Preston, United Kingdom
What a cracking find! Picked at random when working in nearby Morpeth and Alnwick but well worth a return visit. My room was comfy and clean. The wifi worked without problem. Food in the bar was good and there was a good range of beer too. Plenty of parking on outside car park or on main street It may not be all shiny, boutique and a la carte, but (thank god, thats not what Northumberland is about). Honest food, friendly folk, a clean comfy bed, a couple of good pints... What more does a working man want? Would I return? For certain

The Queens Head replied: Hello, Thanks very much for taking time to leave us your review we do really appreciate it. We hope to see you again in lovely Rothbury. Teresa
