Overview

The Queens Head in Rothbury is a traditional old fashioned Inn in the heart of the beautiful Coquet Valley. A landmark in the village since 1780 the pub is centrally placed and within 1 minutes' walk of the river.

On the edge of the National Park and only 30 minutes drive from the Heritage coast, making us an ideal base from which to explore the natural beauty of North Northumberland and the Borders, or if shopping is your pleasure Newcastle is only 40 minutes drive away.

Outdoor pursuits in the area include  fishing, golfing, shooting, walking, climbing and cycling.  The Coquet is justly famous for its trout and salmon fishing, and other rivers are within easy reach. Rothbury has its own 18-hole golf course and there are many more in the area.

We can arrange discounted golfing and fly fishing tuition and we have cycle storage and drying  space for muddy boots. We can also arrange for cycle hire, delivered to the door and hire of all terrain buggies for children.

The hotel has 7 en suite bedrooms (including family rooms), 2 dining rooms, lounge bar and games room. There is a pleasant outdoor seating area and free parking in a private car park.

Children are always welcome and high chairs are provided, cots are available by prior arrangement.

We have a reputation for excellent food and offer a bar menu as well a full a la Carte menu. The Sunday carvery is especially popular and good value for money and if you eat nothing else you must try the bread and butter pudding, or the hot sticky ginger pudding, or the chocolate sponge pudding ...........try them all.

Bed and breakfast Twin or Double Room Rate from £60 to £80 per night.

Single occupancy from £40 per night in a twin and £50 in a double.

Family Rooms supplement £20 per extra person per night

Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meal and extended break packages are available on request.

Walking Holiday

Clive P, Peterborough, United Kingdom
Booked in here by Macs Adventures. Welcoming Hotel. We did have to climb several stairs to our room. Room clean and Shower adequate. Food in evening very good. Also good breakfast. Amazed at how hard working and pleasant one of the staff was. All staff pleasant. Nice stay whilst we did two sections of our walk.

Shabby with no chic

CWWAT, Soham, United Kingdom
The Queens head is a nice pub with good food in the bar and restaurant. I stayed two nights and had an enjoyable meal on both occasions. The staff are friendly and work hard. The décor beyond the bar is in need of much TLC and updating. The room was functional. The place needs a make over.

faded grandeur but doing their best

gmccartney2016, Crieff, United Kingdom
This hotel is typical of many in small towns nowadays,it needs money spent on it . We spent 2 nights here, the room was small but clean and ensuite nothing to complain about .We had dinner 1 night and the food was very good, the staff in both the restaurant and bar were trying their hardest to make sure your stay was enjoyable.Rothbury is a lovely town in a beautiful area and all this hotel needs is refurbished to bring it into this century but that costs money.

Not for us

Sticho, East Lothian
Booked a deal for two nights B&B through Itison based on reasonable reviews on here. After negotiating the narrow stairs up three flights to the room we were very surprised by the size and decor. The shower room was large but very bare. The bed clean but the room was very basic and tired looking. We decided not to stay even though we had pre-paid and we left the bottle of prosecco behind too. To be clear this obviously a pub with rooms above that are very basic. The check-in is a hatch at the end of the bar in a corridor next to toilets and slot machine. Premier Inn and Travelodge offer more comfort and style. The pub is in need of serious investment

A sort break in Rothbury

Andemm47, Inverness, United Kingdom
Rothbury is a lovely little town with a good variety of shops, pubs and cafes. The Quuens Head was located in the centre of town with ample parking. The room we were given was up three flights of stairs, not for the faint hearted. The room was spotless and the bed very comfortable, but there were no shelves or hooks in bathroom or shower room to put things on. A towel rail in the shower room would have been a help, and the door was difficult to open from the inside as there was no knob. Probably due to the age of the property the shower was rather temperamental. The food provided was excellent with a good variety for breakfast and an excellent dinner at night. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. We felt the hotel was rather tired and could do with a face lift.
