The Queens Head in Rothbury is a traditional old fashioned Inn in the heart of the beautiful Coquet Valley. A landmark in the village since 1780 the pub is centrally placed and within 1 minutes' walk of the river.

On the edge of the National Park and only 30 minutes drive from the Heritage coast, making us an ideal base from which to explore the natural beauty of North Northumberland and the Borders, or if shopping is your pleasure Newcastle is only 40 minutes drive away.

Outdoor pursuits in the area include  fishing, golfing, shooting, walking, climbing and cycling.  The Coquet is justly famous for its trout and salmon fishing, and other rivers are within easy reach. Rothbury has its own 18-hole golf course and there are many more in the area.

We can arrange discounted golfing and fly fishing tuition and we have cycle storage and drying  space for muddy boots. We can also arrange for cycle hire, delivered to the door and hire of all terrain buggies for children.

The hotel has 7 en suite bedrooms (including family rooms), 2 dining rooms, lounge bar and games room. There is a pleasant outdoor seating area and free parking in a private car park.

Children are always welcome and high chairs are provided, cots are available by prior arrangement.

We have a reputation for excellent food and offer a bar menu as well a full a la Carte menu. The Sunday carvery is especially popular and good value for money and if you eat nothing else you must try the bread and butter pudding, or the hot sticky ginger pudding, or the chocolate sponge pudding ...........try them all.

Great weekend break

We stayed in room 14 for 2 nights (Fri and Sat). This is a good hotel but made even better by the Chef, the food here is amazing, so fresh and locally sourced ingredients at a reasonable price, the Chef (Bob) is the heart of this establishment and made us feel very welcome. After eating from the menu in the bar on the first night we did not hesitate to book a table in the restaurant for the 2nd night too. The breakfast is very substantial and beautifully presented, Lyndsay our server was very pleasant and attentive. The room is basic and a little dated but our linen and room/bathroom was immaculately clean and had all the necessary amenities. The staff really make this place a joy to visit. Even though on the Saturday night there was live music playing in the bar we did not hear a thing in our room. We would certainly return.

My mother and I had Wowchers for 2 nights here; very good value even when we were in separate rooms. The rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable beds with lovely bedding, great hospitality tray. The TV was very small, but we made a lot of use of the charming lounge with huge TV, 4 sofas, books and magazines. We ate here both nights and the food was delicious; the Thai green curry I had on the first night was one of the best I have ever had, and I have dined at many Thai restaurants! A slight disappointment was the presence of ales from Cornwall, Burton & Suffolk, but no local Northumbria brews! Breakfast was very well cooked and the produce was a high quality. I was also impressed at how attentive the staff were at replenishing coffee, milk, juice etc. The hotel is very well located on the main street in Rothbury. I'd love to come back!

Enjoyable stay

Stayed here on a Sat eve with mum & dad, they’d mentioned they spent their honeymoon here 53 years ago so couldn’t resist the temptation to assist them in returning, Teresa was very accommodating, allocating parents room 3 as dad has limited mobility, we had room 16 & if there was anything negative it was way too warm, opened window & turned radiator off, rooms were clean & comfortable & we enjoyed the breakfast it was delicious & plenty of it, would satisfy the heartiest of appetites, don’t expect it to be served immediately though as cooked to order, do think a little more attention to no coffee in the pot, no milk or orange juice, shouldn’t be something guests have to raise, can be uncomfortable doing so, we liked having access to the lounge, were able to chill out in comfort with a big tv as a family before heading down for our meal. The on site bar was homely with a few patrons ordering food, however when we returned from our meal in the restaurant it was really quiet, staff were great getting dad cushions to assist him with both comfort & ease of getting up from the chair, even the table was moved to accommodate his drink, couldn’t have been more helpful, thank you for making it an enjoyable stay for them, it meant a lot.

New year's eve 2 day stay.

Lovely stay in this hotel for 2 days ...our room was up in the gods (as we say)twin beds ..very clean and everything you needed , however a bit dated...but didn't spoil our stay . The free breakfast was amazing ,plenty of choice . Cooked to perfection the full English. Enjoyed our time there .

Two Day Christmas Break

John H,
We stayed here from the 24th Dec till 26th Dec , we had two rooms booked , room 15 , 16 , . Now the shower in one of the room did not work , you could not turn it on at all , we mentioned it to the person on reception who seemed surprised it did not work . Then on the the day we left 26th December we woke up to no heating in are rooms & the shower was cold as we But I would like to point out that the staff had no idea how to deal with the issue of the shower & no heating I got the impression they wear't botherd really Other than the issues above we enjoyed the bar meal we had on the evening of the 24th Dec.
