Not to be missed

stevesmith10, London, United Kingdom
Booked this as we were walking Hadrians wall. Everyone wants to get into twice brewed but this is the one to stay at! Beautifully modernised local pub with the rooms at an exceptional standard. Lovely bedding etc with clearly a lot of investment and care. The owners Ian and Sa were just lovely and the food in the evening and breakfast was very well cooked without pretension. The best place we stayed on our walk! If only some of the others came and stayed here to learn where their offering is short. Definitely recommend.

Five Stars for The Bowes Hotel

Bobgreen54, Rampton, United Kingdom
I booked the Bowes Hotel just because it was close by the end point of a day walking Hadrians Wall. I was more than pleased to find The Bowes is such a lovely hotel off the beaten track. The Bowes is an old pub but newly modernized for today’s discerning travelled. It’s is bright, clean and welcoming. My room was better than most four star hotels I’ve stayed in here in the Uk. It was spotless clean with every thing a weary traveler needs. The evening meal is typical ‘pub grub’ but at the high end of quality and taste. The full English breakfast was just that. A very generous size meal to set me up for the day. The owners and the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure I was made welcome and had all that I needed. Would I go back again? DEFINITELY

Outstanding!

nthmblnd,
My wife and I arrived after a challenging days cycling. We were soaked and pretty miserable on arrival but the welcome we received soon changed that. The hotel, recently refurbished, is of a very high standard. There room was immaculate and very comfortable and there was secure storage for our bikes. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the bar area which were both excellent. The bar is large, also very comfortable and has a welcoming atmosphere. The staff and the service were also excellent and complimented the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere perfectly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Excellent pub/hotel. Recently redone. Absolutely superb rooms. High end / boutique style. Great value also. Top team and friendly/efficient service. Ian the owner really helpful. I would recommend it 100%. Great pizzas also!

Good Friday Stay

530allisont, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Arrived on a sunny Bank Holiday Friday and were delighted with the outside area to sit and enjoy the afternoon sunshine. Our room "The Pottery" was clean and well equipped. Lovely balcony overlooking the pottery and a small kitchenette. Aware that food is only served between 5-8pm we headed down to eat around 7pm. The menu is not huge and sadly 2 of the main courses were already sold out. We opted for steak and a trio of burgers. Sadly the burgers were so overcooked as to be dry and almost inedible. Steak although it looked good was also over cooked. Staff were excellent and attentive and the atmosphere was nice. Unfortunately our nights sleep was tainted by the complete lack of soundproofing to the next door room. This was a room which could be reached via an adjoining door. Certainly ideal if travelling with kids but impractical for strangers! Breakfast was slow and somewhat chaotic and again parts were over cooked. So sadly disappointing dining for an otherwise pleasant hotel.
