A Victorian country hall in extensive grounds overlooking the North Tyne river and Dunterley Fell. Award-winning restaurant with Les Routier Gold Plate and AA rosette. Real ale, log fires and candlelit dinners. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Although undoubtedly Northumbria's premier sporting hotel with its sought after salmon beats, cricket and football field and indoor swimming pool it is also the nearest hotel to Kielder Water, is opposite Bellingham's renowned golf course and handy for walking on Hadrian's wall, the Pennine Way and Kielder Forest! But, still well over half of the hotel's guests are tourists out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northumberland's National Park and sample the hotels widely respected food and hospitality.

Beautiful break in Bellingham

David B,
Stayed in this hotel for a short break. Booked in the recently decorated Garden Room. Very clean, very comfortable bed, peaceful with excellent view over the cricket field and River North Tyne. Lovely, well cooked meals; friendly and helpful staff. Only disadvantage was the walk outdoors and the steps to the Garden Room. Would not hesitate to stay again and Thank You for making our first stay so pleasant.

Lovely resting place!

MCCN1, Northern Ireland
Only got to stay here for one night as we were travelling to Scotland. The room number 25 was freshly decorated lovely big bed very small TV but a wonderful view in the morning. The bathroom was clean and adequate. We want to return for a weekend sometime. The breakfast was lovely although we didn’t have time to stop for a cooked one my husband pined all day for the missed smoked kippers. The down points would be the accessories in the room like biscuits or lack of to accompany the coffee or tea, the lack of soap and shower gel/shampoo is available in the bathroom and limited towels. This may have been because originally my husband was travelling solo and at the last minute I was able to travel with him although we let the hotel know the morning we were arriving It could be the case that they just hadn’t prepared the room for two. However it was lovely and we would definitely return.

Relaxing Dog friendly Stay in a lovely room & Great food

JulieB03, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Stayed for 2 nights 2 adults, one child and the dog. We were given a lovely room overlooking the green. The room had patio doors leading out to the green which was perfect for the dog. Despite the entrance to the hotel being a bit dated and tired our room was beautiful, the staff were lovely and the food was great. My daughter enjoyed the pool and said it was fine. The hotel is in a beautiful location for nice walks, we will definitely stay again.

Overnight stay

Stayed one night. As previous comments stated, the hotel definitely needs a re-vamp. Uninviting and extremely cold entrance. Staff very friendly and attentive. Lovely shower room but mirror located far too high to be useable. Room very dark so unable to use dressing table. Blind broken so unable to let in natural light. Had evening meal which was lovely as was the breakfast. The bar area was pleasant but then again could do with some easy chairs.

Anniversary night stay

Pixie056, Gateshead, United Kingdom
We were bought an overnight stay in a superior room with dinner and breakfast as a gift . We decided to go on our anniversary. We checked in and our case was carried up for us by a very pleasant man whose name we didn't get . Didn't see any lift so don't know what would happen if you couldn't carry your own case . Anyway , our room was large with a big bathroom with shower and bath . All clean . We went down to the pool and the door code was entered for us . Small changing room , didn't notice any lockers so just left clothes on a peg . The pool is a rectangle and 3 people were doing laps . No jacuzzi, I didn't try steam room. Husband did 3 lengths and got out , it was cold . There were 4 metal chairs so I sat and read for a while. Too cold for me to go in . It's not the type of pool you could sit around on comfy loungers. There aren't any and the surrounding pool area isn't large enough. We had a drink in the bar area and then dinner . Can't fault the service or food , all good. People had written in the visitors book that they'd had comfortable mattresses . Sadly that wasn't the case in room 3 . Husbands side was fine but springs were sticking in my back . It was a big bed so I slept on the couple of feet on the edge of the bed . Not so good , worst mattress I've slept on in a hotel for many years . I did mention it to the lady on the desk as we checked out but who knows if anything will be done about it . Reading some reviews on TripAdvisor , our pillows were good and we had hot water in the shower , gathered some people didn't ! Husband had a kipper for breakfast , said it was nice . There's the basic cereal selection , no croissants or anything . Our toast was 2 slices between us , maybe could have asked for more but didn't . One lady serving everyone, she was busy and I gathered she made the toast too ! On our visit most of the guests were middle aged to elderly . Probably not suit younger ones . It's an old hotel , fine in public places ( apart from pool ) but could use some updating.
