Overview

A Victorian country hall in extensive grounds overlooking the North Tyne river and Dunterley Fell. Award-winning restaurant with Les Routier Gold Plate and AA rosette. Real ale, log fires and candlelit dinners. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Although undoubtedly Northumbria's premier sporting hotel with its sought after salmon beats, cricket and football field and indoor swimming pool it is also the nearest hotel to Kielder Water, is opposite Bellingham's renowned golf course and handy for walking on Hadrian's wall, the Pennine Way and Kielder Forest! But, still well over half of the hotel's guests are tourists out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northumberland's National Park and sample the hotels widely respected food and hospitality.

☆ BURGER ☆

IamFoodNorth,
Must say they know how to cook in this place. Very happy with my venison burger. It had a lovely amount of good crispy chips and trimmings of salad. The burger it's self was lovely and I'm looking forward to try the many other burgers on the menu. Super friendly staff ☆☆☆

Thanks for a wonderful break.

This was our second visit to the Riverdale in the last 6 months and as per the first stay it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The staff were excellent, right from the booking process (always contact them direct rather than use a booking site) through to the service they gave us over the 3 days we stayed with them. We had gone up to Bellingham to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday and on the Thursday night we had a celebration meal in the hotel restaurant. Having alerted the hotel in advance that my daughter was a vegan, the kitchen very kindly produced her own vegan menu. This was so inviting that my wife and I also chose items from it! I must also recommend the steaks, which two of us had, and which are first class (I must remember to ask who their supplier is next time we go). We again stayed in one of the garden rooms which overlook the cricket pitch and the river beyond. The views are lovely and calming, with large patio doors that allow you to walk straight out onto the grass and stroll down to the river. This was fantastic both early morning or in the evening when thew wildlife are about. This hotel is not a chain where every room is identical and box like, this hotel has individuality and charm. The staff are always helpful and could not have been more welcoming. Thank you.

Some simple things let us down in this hotel

miket1968l, Darlington, United Kingdom
The room was totally inadequate - I felt we were on a trip to fawlty towers - for the amount we paid I shouldn't have accepted the room and checked straight out. It was a very busy period for the hotel but close to £180 for a small, shabby, poorly decorated room for one night was too much. The balcony was rotten and in danger of falling into the buildings underneath, the bathroom was shabby, the decor was old and many of the simple things like lamps didn't work. Fortunately the restaurant was looking better. The menu was excellent but unfortunately the service was poor. The owner (manageress) tried to rip us off with the wine list, one of the waiters dropped another tables plates on my partners feet and the wine eventually turned up long after our meal should have been finished. All in all a terrible experience. This standard would not be accepted in a city break hotel - why the country side?

Peaceful

Sylvia T,
Enjoyed an overnight stay, room lovely and big . Lots of storage and beautiful views of the cricket pitch and river. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We ate at the bar rather than the restaurant, food was nice and large portions. We never used the pool so can’t comment. Would stay again

A Lovely comfortable hotel in a good location

GerryK158, Cambridge, United Kingdom
The room was very airy and comfortable with views over the river. It had a good size bathroom and the bed was comfortable too. We had dinner in the restaurant having previously booked half board and thoroughly enjoyed the 4 course meal that was included. There is a small swimming pool and sauna but it looked very tired.
