Overview

A Victorian country hall in extensive grounds overlooking the North Tyne river and Dunterley Fell. Award-winning restaurant with Les Routier Gold Plate and AA rosette. Real ale, log fires and candlelit dinners. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Although undoubtedly Northumbria's premier sporting hotel with its sought after salmon beats, cricket and football field and indoor swimming pool it is also the nearest hotel to Kielder Water, is opposite Bellingham's renowned golf course and handy for walking on Hadrian's wall, the Pennine Way and Kielder Forest! But, still well over half of the hotel's guests are tourists out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northumberland's National Park and sample the hotels widely respected food and hospitality.

Family Weekend Break

NormaT, Newcastle upon Tyne
As there were 2 couples we were given an apartment. It had 2 large bedrooms with king size beds, both en suite, kitchen with dishwasher, cooker etc, large lounge and a balcony. Great space with the only issue being house keeping didn't realise we weren't self catering and forgot to replace towels, replenish soap, make beds etc. Food is amazing as is the extensive wine list. Restaurant menu changes daily. We visited Keilder and took the boat trip - well worth a visit for the fabulous scenery. Hotel needs some tlc and it will be perfect !

Great weekend break

Not far from the Roman wall and Keilder, this hotel is just the job for a bit of exploring this part of Northumberland. Comfortable rooms, decent bar and good food. Highly recommended. The swimming pool is a bit dated but no big deal.

Cheeky Night Way

Stephen R,
My girlfriend and bought a night at the Riverdale off of itison. We paid £99 for breakfast, dinner and bed. We weren't to sure what to expect upon arrival as we had previously been to Scarborough via Groupon and were scarred by the hotel!! The Riverdale on the other hand was a pleasant surprise. The staff were incredibly friendly and made you feel more than welcome. The drinks were reasonably priced with a wide variety of choice of lagers, beers, spirits, a gin menu and a cocktail menu. The food was excellent, we had a lovely 3 course meal in the evening, my girlfriend had a fillet steak and is still telling me how good it was. Unfortunately we didn't make the evening in the hotel as we had a few in town in the afternoon and ended sound asleep by 9pm. The room was lovely, kingsize bed and a balcony. My only complaint would be that one of the deckchairs on the balcony was damaged and unusable. Apart from that no complaints. Bellingham is only 10 mins away and easily walkable. We went in to town in the afternoon and spent it in the Cheviot. A lovely bar with a ridiculous amount if drink to chose from. We had lunch there Which was lovely. Great weekend away. Would recommend the Riverdale to anyone for a night away.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and great food.

Stayed at Riverdale for two nights. Nice room, with large double bed overlooking the cricket pitch and river. Our package included dinner on the first night but we enjoyed the food so much we ate there again on our second night.Excellent local food at reasonable prices and all the staff were very efficient and friendly. Hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Bellingham which is extremely well serviced for such a small village - two pubs, a Co-op, a butcher, baker, greengrocer, two cafes, a hardware store, newsagent and a Chinese takeway. You can also get a bus into Hexham just a few minutes from the hotel.Looking forward to returning..
