A Victorian country hall in extensive grounds overlooking the North Tyne river and Dunterley Fell. Award-winning restaurant with Les Routier Gold Plate and AA rosette. Real ale, log fires and candlelit dinners. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Although undoubtedly Northumbria's premier sporting hotel with its sought after salmon beats, cricket and football field and indoor swimming pool it is also the nearest hotel to Kielder Water, is opposite Bellingham's renowned golf course and handy for walking on Hadrian's wall, the Pennine Way and Kielder Forest! But, still well over half of the hotel's guests are tourists out to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northumberland's National Park and sample the hotels widely respected food and hospitality.

Lovely little hotel

885clairek, Gateshead, United Kingdom
My partner and I visited for a short stay gifted to us from his mam. This included two nights stay and afternoon tea at a local cafe. We had a lovely time, enjoyed the peace and quiet and appreciated the French doors in our room leading to a beautiful view. The hotel decor itself is in need of a bit of an update, but the staff are very pleasant and the rooms are fine. I always appreciate a hotel room with plug sockets by the bed for phone charging! The restaurant in the hotel serves nice food but quite expensive for what you get - if you do fancy splashing out, I highly recommend the brownie. The rest of our meal was fine, just maybe not worth the cost. Swimming pool was very peaceful and the natural light and views made my morning swim very relaxing. There is a sauna but you will need to request it to be turned on in advance. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Another great weekend.

We visited again for their wine themed weekend and had a most enjoyable time. Our room, 10, was spacious, with a very comfortable bed, room for two easy chairs and plenty of storage space. The balcony looked over the cricket pitch down to the river. The bathroom, although somewhat petite, was very clean with fluffy towels. It was very quiet and we had two excellent nights’ sleep. Breakfast was fine - a selection of cereals, fruit, yogurts and juice with a good range of freshly cooked hot dishes. All the staff here are lovely and very hardworking. In places the decor is looking a little tired but in no way did that detract from our enjoyment.

Apartment ‘self catering’ stay

I booked a two night stay in one of the apartments...then read Trip Advisor and panicked. If you have done the same DO NOT PANIC. We stayed in apartment 3, which is called Graham. Upon arrival we checked in at reception and were taken to the apartment, which is really close to the hotel and shown all around by a very polite member of staff. It is huge!! It has a lounge-dining-kitchen area. The lounge has a corner sofa and a tube chair, a very large dining table with 6 chairs, freeview tv and DVD player and patios doors on to the balcony. The kitchen area has a sink, oven, kettle, microwave and dishwasher. There are plates, bowls, cups, glasses, egg-cups, pans, knives, cutlery, a corkscrew bottle opener, a toast rack, salt and pepper...the list goes on. There was tea, coffee, sugar and little milks by the kettle, just like if you were in a hotel room. There was even a little dishwasher tablet by the dish soap :) Each of the 2 double sized bedrooms is en-suite with a toilet (plenty of loo roll) a bath with shower over and a basin. Clean bed linen and towels throughout, even a kitchen towel and dish cloth. There was also a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board. Yes it could do with a little TLC, but it’s clean and warm and huge!! We normally camp but the weather this year has been against us so for our last holiday of the year we wanted somewhere with walls. Apartment 3 is great value for money and if you don’t want to self cater the hotel is very welcoming. We had an evening meal and a breakfast. We parked just by the apartment without any problem and it’s just about a ten minute stroll to the village. PS. The balcony is great for looking at the stars.

Late summer break

We decided to visit the Bellingham annual show at our last visit to the Riverdale .It is the most relaxing hotel to stay. The staff are happy and friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is very good especially the breakfasts. In all a very good experience

A Superbly-run Hotel with an Excellent Restaurant

Chris F, Lincoln, United Kingdom
We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 'Smartbox' voucher deal. What a superbly-run hotel. The room we had may not have been the most spacious, but it had everything we needed; The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was smart and clean and everything worked. The staff were absolutely fantastic. I'd love to mention some names, but didn't get the opportunity to learn them. From reception to the bar to the restaurant, everyone was really friendly, helpful and professional. You have a great team! But the real highlight of this hotel is it's restaurant and food! We ate from the bar menu on the first night and the restaurant menu on the second night. Delicious and plentiful! The restaurant menu is fantastic and it changes every night. Some very high quality dishes; I had the roasted duck breast and duck fritter... wow! Credit to the chef!!! Would absolutely come back here again and will recommend to anyone I know visiting the area. Thanks for an awesome stay!
