Remarkably good - and at a service station!

robert_g_w_brown, Tustin, California
We used Purdy Lodge as a low-cost basic hotel for our tour of the Northumberland Coast - Bamburgh, Alnwick, Craster, Lindisfarne, etc, all close by. Our room was basic, warm, clean and comfortable...we just wanted a place to lay our heads at night! The Purdy restaurant-food was very good, the cafe-food good for less expensive and smaller offerings- but we also easily found excellent food in Belford, Bamburgh and Alnwick. Purdy breakfasts were fine, both full-English and basic-Continental. The rooms are all quiet, being at the back of the hotel away from the A1 road. The service station next door was no problem; actually quite convenient. Reasonably priced - I'd return here for sure.

Great Place to stop

Found this on the road to Berwick upon Tweed. It’s clean, the staff are friendly and the good is freshly cooked, served in a very nice restaurant and very good. It’s a great place for coaches, trucks and families. Plenty of parking cheap to park overnight and clean toilets and shower. One to put in favourites on the sat nav!

Not great- Toilet didn’t work and wasn’t fixed

Location is handy if you need to be next to A1, but this is so close to the road that it’s a negative overall. Breakfast included was good, bar food is poor. Showers have almost no pressure, so not easy to use and far from enjoyable. 2 stars in the end because our toilet flush did not work and we were given a BUCKET to sort out the problem ourselves. That’s right.... a bucket. No apology, no fixing of the toilet. Poor service.

Great location and a nice stay

Great for Bamburgh, and all related sites. Right on A1 but rooms face away from it across arable land. Even a view of Bamburgh Castle and the sea. Good value, nice breakfast and evening meal. Even a choice for my two Vegan children.

Family favourite

This is the second time we've stayed here and it's just as good as the first. Comfortable clean rooms, good food, excellent service and super friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble and we're made to feel at home from the second we walk through the door. We stay here with our 4 year old twins and the family rooms are just perfect. It's the second time we have brought my father in law who's in his 90s and the accessible room is everything he needs. Absolutely A1 on the A1 😁
