Cafe One - Cheese Scone Nil

bobtracey, Clacton-on-Sea, United Kingdom
We called in here for refreshment on a long drive from Clacton to Leith this afternoon. We ordered coffee, which was fine, and chose the cheese scones. The server did not offer to warm the lovely looking fluffy cheese scones, so we ate them cold with butter. They were pretty tasteless, largely without substance and were effectively puffed up confection not worthy, we felt, of being called scones. Our query is ‘why bother with sub standard product”? We were happy to pay whatever it cost for decent quality scones in a lovely rural area, however we ended up with chewy, tasteless confection. We suggest that they should seek better produce, otherwise don’t bother with the scones.

Stopover

240lorrainem, Marske-by-the-Sea, United Kingdom
Mixed feelings about purdy lodge. The food and drink were excellent reasonably priced and a relaxed atmosphere in bar area. The bedroom however could do with a refurbish stains and holes in carpet. The bathroom tiles n grout mouldy, pressure in shower low kept dripping, water very hot wouldn't cool down even on cold setting. Toilet cistern kept running after flushed.Felt room needed another clean. Breakfast food tasty and plentiful but dogs allowed at table No no no! Staff clapping the dog allowing it to jump up on them then serving food without washing hands a major hygiene risk!!! It's a shame because it's a lovely friendly hotel which I would use again if better hand hygiene from staff and bedrooms cleaned better.

Excellent Stay

MalcH, Loughborough, United Kingdom
Second time Ive stayed here and this time with a group of nine friends. Hotel were really accommodating and made us feel very welcome. Room comfortable, quiet and a good nights sleep. Nice large shower too. Breakfast was very nice with freshly cooked food and a reasonable choice of cereals/juices etc. Good value for money and yes I'll use again.

Good Food

Finaidan, Lake District England
We had a meal here as it was close to our holiday cottage. The food was good and reasonably priced and there was a good selection. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The restaurant itself was nice and relaxing and very clean a good place to stop on the way past too with plenty of parking and you can stay the night although we didn’t

Remarkably good - and at a service station!

robert_g_w_brown, Tustin, California
We used Purdy Lodge as a low-cost basic hotel for our tour of the Northumberland Coast - Bamburgh, Alnwick, Craster, Lindisfarne, etc, all close by. Our room was basic, warm, clean and comfortable...we just wanted a place to lay our heads at night! The Purdy restaurant-food was very good, the cafe-food good for less expensive and smaller offerings- but we also easily found excellent food in Belford, Bamburgh and Alnwick. Purdy breakfasts were fine, both full-English and basic-Continental. The rooms are all quiet, being at the back of the hotel away from the A1 road. The service station next door was no problem; actually quite convenient. Reasonably priced - I'd return here for sure.
