Excellent hotel

Jim S, Nottingham, United Kingdom
This is a first class hotel. There was a mix up with my booking as on arrival I was taken to a different type of room to the one I had booked. The receptionist quickly sorted the problem by reallocating me a room of the type I expected. That was done without any hassle. The room itself was excellent; beautifully furnished, very clean and tidy, all expected facilities which included a fully stocked mini-bar, spacious bathroom, a patio leading onto a garden and both with seating and tables, and finally a very large and comfortable bed. There were also nice touches such as complimentary water and an umbrella in the wardrobe. I also ate in the restaurant one evening and had a room service dinner on a second evening. The food was excellent, with great service from the staff. Overall, a very enjoyable stay. I recommend the hotel for any purpose related to business or pleasure.

Business breakfast training session

Dr_Waugh, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Here for a course. Parking was a doddle, lots of spaces. Lovely meeting room, lovely grounds and gardens around the hotel. The food was breakfast themed, bacon sandwiches and tea, coffee, etc were all very nice. Not much mobile signal inside, but that wasn’t an issue for me. Lovely environment.

Arriving at the hotel after a hard day of business and enjoying the tranquility and nature that surrounds the hotel is vital to rest and star a new day of business. Any query or need is resolved quickly by the hotel team. I'm sure I'll be back with my family.

Cant wait to come back

Sdannatt09,
We arrived on Friday and was greeted by a lovely lady on Reception. Our room wasn't quite ready so we went into the bar to have a drink. Once in there we was greeted by Alex, who I have to say has made our stay great. he was very friendly, gave plenty of advise and generally made us feel welcome. We was given our room key and the room (22) was beautiful. Very clean and a beautiful view of the garden. The breakfast was amazing, very good continental choice and the cooked options were plenty. We also had afternoon tea which is the best I have ever had. Our left overs were boxed for us to take away. We was served by Dana and again she was lovely on every occasion we met her. I cant wait to come back. Thank you again Alex and Dana I hope the management realise what wonderful staff they have.

Room was a disaster

LauDon86, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
My partner and I attended a friends wedding at Jesmond Dene House and had booked a room so we could stay over that night. The wedding itself was fantastic and I can't fault the food, surroundings or service but unfortunately the room was a disaster. At approx 1.00am we headed up to our room, when the door was closed behind us we were hit by the overwhelming smell of vomit. There was a large wet patch on the carpet next to the bed where housekeeping had obviously tried to clean up the mess left by the previous nights guest, unfortunately they were unable to get rid of the smell. I rang reception to explain the problem, the night manager advised that he was unable to move us because the hotel was fully booked; he then came up to the the room with some sort upholstery spray, sprayed the carpet and said he would leave the spray with us incase we needed to use it again. Although I appreciate there was little the night manager was able to do if all rooms were occupied, at £160 per night I was not prepared to stay in a room that was reeking of someone elses stale vomit. The night manager suggested he tried to find us another hotel for the evening, I persuaded him to instead just pay fot a taxi home as we live in Newcastle and this would be more convenient for us and cheaper than JDH having to pay for a room elsewhere. Next morning I rang JDH and explained what had happened the night before, I advised that both our cars were still at the hotel as we had arrived separately and both of us and been drinking at the wedding so had been unable to drive the previous night. I must say that lovely lady on reception (I can't remember her name) was great and arranged for a hotel taxi to pick us up at our convenience and take us to our cars. On arriving back at Jesmond Dene House I popped into reception to thank then for sorting the taxi and to confirm that there would be no charge for the room. I was asked to leave a contact number and told that the hotel manager would contact me to discuss my experience, two weeks later and I'm still waiting for a call.... Quite frankly I expected much more from an award winning hotel with such a fantastic reputation, therefore I've had no choice other than to rate it just 2 stars.
