Wonderful

SteveM3344,
I had the pleasure of attending my brothers wedding here. What an amazing place. The staff were friendly and attentive. My mum had a disabled room which was perfectly equipped and everything you could want. Above all the staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. They helped make a wonderful family occasion absolutely fabulous. Thanks to you all. A lot of people will remember what a great job you did. It was an absolute pleasure to pleasure to be there

Dinner out

richard g, newcastle upon tyne
This hotel has a well respected restaurant so we thought it would be nice to try it out for a nice meal out for two. The menus were extensive including a five course tasting menu with complimentary wines but we felt that was a bit pricey so we went for the table d’hote fixed daily menu and both enjoyed our meals very much. We were sat in the conservatory which was well appointed and atmospheric after started filling up The staff were very attentive and friendly We will go again in the future.

Variety of rooms, friendly staff, quality service, smokey fires!

someplaceorother, Shropshire
Stayed here over 4 weeks in Jan 2019. Overall its a great place - individually styled rooms as you'd expect, in the wing and main building. Some can be a little on the 'compact' side but manageable. Plenty of on site parking. Helpful friendly staff. Nice gardens but too cold at the time for me to sue them! Restaurant - the ala carte menu is excellent, but expensive if you are on limited expenses. A 3 course meal of steak, no sides, a large glass of Stellenboch and a coffee doesn't give much change from £70. There is a £20 / £25 menu but limited to 3 dishes - which although delicious is quite boring day after day! A bar menu is also available in either the bar or side room (both with open, smoky fireplaces!) at around £15 but the quality is very disappointing when compared to the restaurant or a 'gastro pub'. Fish & Chips edible but greasy and a little well done on 2 occasions for example. Definitely the place to stay for a traditional quality break .

Sunday Lunch

910maryf, Durham, United Kingdom
I came for Sunday lunch and it was a delight from start to finish. I ordered roast chicken which was cooked to perfection, and the Yorkshire pudding was very moreish. For dessert I ordered the tonka bean Creme brûlée which was divine and the shortbread was delicious! Very friendly staff, and I definitely want to return!

Utterly disappointing

Mildred21, Glasgow, United Kingdom
We booked this hotel for a special birthday treat. We had read great reviews so booked for two nights and for dinner on the second night. Party of three, paid for a suite with twin beds and a sofa bed. Room had only provided toiletries/robe/face cloth/cups for two people. We phoned reception, no answer so had to go to reception to ask for another robe. It never arrived. We went down to the bar for drinks before our dinner reservation elsewhere in Jesmond. We didn’t realise until checking out that a service charge was added to drinks!! Utterly ridiculous. Room was very hot during the night. Breakfast the following morning was disappointing, no vegetarian full breakfast option available. Service was poor/slow. Dinner in the restaurant was underwhelming. Very few options, inaccurate descriptions of food and staff had a poor understanding of the menu. The table wasn’t cleared properly, cutlery wasn’t taken away and had to ask for a steak knife. When the food arrived it was cold and after sending back it was returned having clearly been stuck in a microwave. Steak arrived without chips as advertised and when we chased them up they took another 15 mins to arrive by which time the steak was cold and chips were red hot. Wine was nice. No one asked us how our food was until the very end. When we checked out no one asked how our stay was. Should have stayed in the Best Western round the corner.
