Overview

Set west of Newcastle in 1000 stunning acres of Northumberland forest and moorland is Slaley Hall. The hotel owes its existence to Charles Samuel Hunting, who first purchased the estate in the late 1800's. Today it remains a symbol of Edwardian elegance and a grand retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Guests have a choice of 141 individually designed rooms, including suites in the Old or New Hall with spa baths, separate lounges and bedrooms, and a pick of different eating venues - Hadrian's Brasserie, The Claret Jug and a range of private dining rooms.

Slaley Hall is the only hotel in Northumbria to have two championship golf courses. Both courses are 72 par, and cater for anything from local community and corporate events through to major national and international tournaments, at the same time maintaining the standards of service and course access demanded by regular club members.

Slaley Hall has hosted the England football team - who took advantage of the hotel's football pitch during their stay.

As an alternative to golf, guests can relax by taking a swim in the leisure club's 20m pool, enjoying a treatment in the health and beauty spa or sampling the estate's numerous outdoor activities. These include clay pigeon shooting, archery, quad biking, mountain biking and off road driving. There are also options of short or long walks around the hotel's extensive gardens, which enable guests to enjoy the Northumberland scenery, as well as the estate's Japanese garden's and resident red squirrels.

We stayed last year in November on a kid free night and it was fab. Used the pool and facilities and dined in the restaurant with cocktails in the bar before. Still thinking of it and want to go back!

Excellent stay

BellaBlott, North East
We arrived early to drop off bags and the hotel reception were very accommodating allowing us to check into our rooms early. Concierge service helped us carry bags to the rooms and assisted with secure storage for our bikes. The surroundings and grounds are superb. We had large rooms which were clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We visited the spa, which was clean, modern and good design with seating and drinks area. We were on the DB&B package and enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast which offered a particularly wide range of foods. The Bars were excellent and include a Sports Bar where my husband enjoyed watching ( part!! ) of football match. For the money we paid, we couldn't fault the facilities, grounds, service and food the hotel offered.

Enjoyable stay

We had an enjoyable 2 night stay , our room overlooked the golf course which was very clean and comfortable with fridge and usual amenities. The food we had both breakfast and dinner was very good the service was efficient and varied choice menu. We enjoyed the spa and pool and the service and support my partner received due to him having to use a crutch was excellent. All said we would gladly stay there again.

Classic Car Group Spring Tour

napiera2019,
14 cars with 28 drivers and passengers chose Slaley Hall for our base for s 5 day 4 night tour of Nothumberland. Northumbria is a very beautuful county. Perfect for a classic car tour. Wonderful quiet fantastic drivibg roads. Slaley Hall is a very good base to stay as it has all the facilities especially for the passengers who tend to be Mrs driver. There is Spa, beauty salon, jacuzzi. Golf ispossiy not of interest for the classic car enthusiasts but if it is there is that as well We negotiated a good deal which included 3 course dinner and breakfasts all of which were excellent. The only downside would be the pruces of dri ks. Be very careful and ask for prices before ordering. The staff could not be faulted. Very friendly and helpful. The twin room that we stayed in was spacious. It was a tiny bit tired but comfy beds and spacious and quite acceptable. I would not want to fault it on that alone. The grounds are beautiful with quite a few activities such as quad biking, Segways and walking. I would definitely recommend this venue for thw base for a classic car tour.

Very Disappointed

Allencap, Glasgow, United Kingdom
My husband I have just returned for a 2 night stay on DB&B package. On arrival our first impressions were good. Grounds are stunning reception and checkin good. Asked to make a reservation for dinner to be told only two slots available, either 6pm or 8.45pm. We settled on the later Bit late for us but 6pm is too early. We went along to the main restaurant for dinner and were sat down and awaited our waitress who duly arrived took our order for starters and main course when she asked if we could order our sweet at the same time. Strange!!! We declined saying we would decided once we had eaten. Food delivered and she kept hovering around whilst we ate our main course. As soon as we put our cutlery down she was straight over to ask if we wanted a dessert. We declined the dessert. This was 9.40pm. She then told us she finished at 10pm and could she get us our bill. WOW apologies if we were going to keep her back, but this was the time we were given for dinner even though the restaurant was not busy when we arrived. Next morning breakfast. 3times we had to ask for coffee. My breakfast was finished before it arrived. Dinner day 2. Asked for 7.30pm again told could you make it 7.45pm We arrived at 7.35pm and a young man who looked like a manager rolled his eyes said you do know your table is for 7.45pm your are 10mins early. Go into the bar and come back at 7.45. Speechless!!! We came back at 7.45 to be greeted by same gentleman who seated us then in a loud voice said - Your are on the dinner packed and have £26 each to spend. Anymore than that and you will have to pay the difference.I was affronted. We felt like cheapscapes. Ironically when the same person brought us the bill he hadn’t deducted the said £26 Final morning I watched staff seat guests at dirty tables stating by the time you get your buffet the table would be cleared. I have never in all my life seen our experienced service like this. Food at all times was good and that is the only reason I have give a 2 rating. For service it would have been a zero
