Great hotel, amazing food and stargazing

Alexandria1220, Leeds, United Kingdom
I booked this for my partners birthday. It is in a beautiful village (worth having a walk to the river to find the bench on the hill). We booked last minute so had to get an accessible room, which wasn't the nicest and smelt a little of something similar to cigarettes (we are non smokers so smell it a mile off). However, everything else was fantastic. The staff were lovely. The bed was so comfy, and the little touches (biscuits) were wonderful. The food here is excellent, I would really recommend eating here rather than finding an alternative. I had my best ever dessert here. We had a wonderful time and went stargazing which was great. We booked this in advance as it is seperate to the hotel. The hotel has a lovely patio and garden to sit out in and the conservatory is lovely. We had a fabulous breakfast the next day. The continental selection was amazing! We really enjoyed the varied jams. However we also ordered kippers and smoked haddock and eggs (slimming world selection) from the menu which was lovely. We would definitely visit again, just in a different room 😊

Cracking Break.

My wife and I stayed here for a four night break to explore nearby Hadrian's Wall and the other sights of west Northumberland. We stayed in one of the 'luxury lodges', which was huge, well furnished and equipped. Our booking included a seven course tasting menu on the first evening and we also ate each other night in the hotel. The food was top notch pub fare, including lots of vegetables and herbs grown on site and the hotel's home-smoked dishes. The 'dark sky' observatory at the rear of the hotel was also interesting and worth booking. However, the best feature of the hotel was its staff; all of whom were both highly efficient and extremely friendly. Thank you.

Excellent break

We have just got home from a two night break at Battlesteads which included the 8 course tasting menu on the first night. I have to say that the food was delicious, so much so that we ate in the restaurant again on our second night. This time we had the normal menu and again this was great. Breakfast freshly cooked to order and a good selection of cold buffet items if you are not one for a full English. Special mention must go to the staff, they were brilliant. Very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Room could probably do with a bit of an upgrade but it was quite adequate for our needs. Would we come back, most definitely!

Nice rooms, incredible staff!

The rooms are cozy and clean. I really enjoyed the food they serve in the restaurant. What makes this stay really nice is the positivity of the staff! They clearly enjoy their job and will do anything to make your stay as nice as possible!

Service with a smile

Comfortable, clean twin room, complementary fruit was a nice touch, as was the option of making fresh coffee (with cream) as well as the instant. Every member of staff we came into contact with was cheerful, friendly and helpful.  We ate at the restaurant each night of our 3 night stay, although there were many diners it didn't feel crowded and the staff were so well organised that the service was slick and attentive. Plates (and food) were hot. Fresh flowers on the tables. Excellent value, well presented, good food and enough choice that we didn't think of eating anywhere else during our stay. Hotel is located at the edge of the village and has a lovely garden with and bird feeders so we frequently saw woodpeckers. The room was quiet and we were able to have the windows open all the time without being worried by traffic noise, although our room was at the front (overlooking the main road). Stay was so good we didn't want to leave, will definately be back soon.
