Brilliant place just bring your imagination

robpauljames,
Because of the clay soil the Roman artefacts are well preserved and give a real feel of the life in a Roman garrison town. If you have the slightest interest in history this site is a must

An absolute gem

Jennifer S, Rossendale, United Kingdom
A working archeological site uncovering a huge Roman Fort that dates back to 112ad. We spent around 3 hours here but could have spent all day looking at the various exhibits dotted around the estate. Definitely join a guided tour- they’re passionate, knowledgeable and bring the place and the inhabitants to life. £11 per person - worth every penny.

A Must See!

Would recommend purchasing the Saver ticket & visit the Roman Army Museum just down the road first as it gives a good overview before seeing Vindolanda. Very exposed site so go on a fine day! Everyone without exception was friendly & helpful. The food in the cafe was lovely & reasonably priced. On arrival we were invited to join the free 45 minute guided walking tour but didn't take this up as the weather was poor but the offer was appreciated. The new museum was outstanding.

Hadrian’s Wall

Gardinia8, March, United Kingdom
Went to this with no expectations, came away having had a marvellous time. This makes all the history books, videos etc come to real life, so fascinating to begin to understand how these soldiers lived their life.

Stunning museum of excavated finds

Seasonedtraveller142, London, United Kingdom
Wonderful museum chock full of items found from the excavations of the site. Very good onsite cafe. Best of all was the mock up of the stone tower and wall section.
