Spotlight On… From Pit to Pitch Tour

2pm Daily at Woodhorn Museum. Discover the story of 'Wor Jackie' and the rich mining and footballing heritage of south east Northumberland on this short, family friendly tour. Discover the story of 'Wor Jackie', from miner to footballer on a free Spotlight Tour: From Pit to Pitch This tour was inspired by a newly acquired collection of artefacts that belonged to Ashington born miner and footballer Jackie Milburn, ‘Wor Jackie’, which was recently gifted to Woodhorn Museum by Jackie Milburn’s son.

It includes photographs and press materials, along with a reel-to-reel tape recorder (brand named ‘The Soundmirror’) with spools of home recordings made by the Milburn family. The tour highlights the rich footballing heritage of south east Northumberland particularly within local mining communities.

The spotlight tour compliments ‘Soundmirror’, an exhibition of audio, sculpture, paintings and curated objects assembled by artist Matt Stokes and commissioned by Museums Northumberland for Woodhorn Museum. This experience is included at no additional cost as part of your Museums Northumberland Annual Membership where children can visit for free.
