Alnwick Castle After Dark

Overview

Overview

Alnwick Castle welcomes thousands of daytime visitors through its ancient guests during the day, but dare you explore the sinister secrets of this most mysterious medieval castle below stairs in the darkness? Now that the weather is turning and night visits us earlier each evening, Alnwick Castle is allowing a limited number of brave visitors within its walls, led by a cloaked guide, to hear tales of its grisly history after hours.

Beware – this evening outing is not for the faint-hearted! Was that a dim figure flitting in the darkness or just a shadow of the imagination? Did you feel a soft stroke on your face, or was it a cobweb? Feel and hear the anguish of the restless souls who lived within the walls of Alnwick Castle centuries ago as you explore hidden places in the castle not usually seen by visitors. You are advised to book early as these tours are expected to be over-subscribed and numbers are limited to 13 per show.

Access information

Alnwick Castle is a large visitor attraction, comprising a range of historical buildings and sweeping grounds, including an Inner and Outer Bailey and ‘Capability’ Brown landscapes. Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the castle and its grounds, disabled access is limited in some areas.

The grounds of the castle include a variety of surfaces, including cobblestones, flagstones, grass, gravel and wood. These can be uneven and steep in places, with a number of steps on the Gun Terrace.
