Golf trip.

kurtz1976, Penrith, United Kingdom
Lovely location, excellent golf course, nice room, bathroom a little scruffy, but ok, no aircon I’m the room, and we’re in the middle of a heatwave and the room was stifling. Two negatives, the barman could not be bothered. we were a group of twelve golfers, and we were there the same day as England were playing Sweden, and he was probably grumpy as he was having to work, but still, that’s no excuse. Second negative, Breakfast. Waited ages to be sat, waited ages to order, then waited ages for breakfast to arrive, then, when it did, it was one measly, small sausage, one piece of bacon, one egg, a thimble full of beans, piece of black pudding, a tiny, (and I mean TINY! ) potatoe cake thing, was terrible. And they want £18 for it?? We could all twelve of us gone to weatherspoons, and had twice the amount for under a fiver.. Taking advantage of a captive audience of you ask me..

Not up to scratch.

This is a tired hotel in need of money spending on it, we stayed for two nights in the Bridal Suite and to be frank it was a bit of a disappointment, we had paid for an upgrade on arrival and found the bed divan to be thread bear and frayed,( a valance would have hidden this but apparently the Chairman and his wife do not like them, if so change the bed) the sofa within the suite was uncomfortable and you slid forward on sitting on it, i had to fix the wardrobe sliding doors after my wife caught her fingers between them as they were stuck off their tracks, they appeared to be a cheap and cheerful wardrobes and let the room down. The hotel was clean and the staff were great, the Spa was nice and clean and very refreshing at the end of the day, the breakfast was a delight and i really enjoyed that, especially the Black Pudding. In summary this was an okay hotel but the grandeur of Linden Hall was not what the name implies, i would use it again, but it may not be my first choice (Three and a half out of five)

Lovely

We booked dinner, bed & breakfast for one night. My husband paid for an upgrade which included a king size bed and a fruit and chocolate tray, this was a little disappointing; the fruit was looking a little tired and there was no chocolate included. The room was big and had everything you could need, the bed was very comfortable. The hotel could use just a little tidy up, one of our dressing gowns had a hole in and the decor was slightly dated but everything was very clean and tidy. The absolute highlight has to be the dinner, we paid in advance which gave us £25 pp plus a £10 voucher when we arrived. Every course was just delicious and we would definitely eat there again. We decided to treat ourselves to breakfast in bed rather than in the restaurant, it’s a simple process of ticking what you’d like and hanging the sign on your door the night before, this comes with a £5 tray charge and you can choose a delivery time. Unfortunately the breakfast was delivered late and we actually had to call reception to chase it up. The portions were very small, I ordered poached eggs and bacon with toast plus a Danish pastry. Sadly the pastry was missing and the rest was 2 small slices of bacon and one egg. They did taste nice and the toast was home made bread which is a nice touch but a bigger portion would have been better and I have to say I sorely missed that Danish pastry. The hotel did knock the £5 tray charge off due to the lateness which was much appreciated. The pool is rather small but wasn’t crowded which was nice, we used the jacuzzi and my husband enjoyed the sauna and steam room. All fairly standard quality. Overall I would definitely recommend for a nice evening break - and the restaurant is an absolute must. Staff were all lovely!

chill out night away

Phil P,
We went away for a 50th birthday treat. The room was of a good standard and the bed was comfortable. We had a few drinks and our evening meal in the on site pub, which was nice. The next day we had breakfast " which we were a bit disappointed with" and my wife had an hour beauty treatment which she enjoyed.I made use of the pool, sauna and Jacuzzi but the steam room was not working

Weekend stay

aldutto, Newcastle, United Kingdom
Brilliant, relaxing, excellent food friendly staff. Read some reviews so we were a bit anxious but the whole weekend was superb. Couldn't fault service, went to the Dobson restaurant Friday evening food was great, delivered to table quickly and was hot. Breakfasts set us both up for the whole day, a lot of choice. I would say that this is not fault of hotel staff but someone needs to tell the powers that be that they need to invest on some updating and a lick of paint. Some areas did look shabby, stair carpet down to toilets a bit threadbare in places. Our only downer was caused by another guest who decided to pinch our morning newspaper!! Would definitely visit again.
