Not Mcdonald standard at all

mirwin_12, Newcastle, United Kingdom
I have been an elite club member for a number of years and visited a number of their hotels. I visited Linden Hall as I had some vouchers to use up and thought it would be a treat for my daughter. Room rate was quite cheap but reviews were good. On arrival the receptionist didn't even look up ,I spoke first. There was absolutely no small talk at all .I was told I'd been upgraded to a feature room turned put to be a very small double when I had plainly booked a twin. The room was very cold we had yo wear the provided dressing gowns over our clothes. We decided to go to the on site pub for a coffee and a snack ,we were the only people in and the barman literally pulled up a chair and joined in our conversation !! We had booked dinner for 8.30pm but we were so hungry I rang and asked the restaurant if we could change to an earlier time the answer was no.We went in to Felton and had a fantastic Sunday dinner at the Northumberland Arms couldn't falt it.The headboard on the bed was in a terrible state and the toilet was unclean. On the plus side breakfast was lovely with perfect poached eggs. The receptionist who checked us out was absolutely lovely friendly and happy .I think had she checked us in we could have had a different experience.

Lovely Break

denisebI9673QO,
We were given a room with a lovely view overlooking the golf course. Visited Dobson Restaurant on the evening and the food was excellent tried the cheese tart with figs and duck with chutney for starters very good sirlion steaks for mains. Breakfast was also a very good standard with some alternatives to traditional full English. The scones with jam and clotted cream were lovely for afternoon tea. Also visited the spa for facial and back massage which were very relaxing. Some very competitive deals and offers for overnight stays with a round of golf and evening meal included.

Nice enough, but I don't think I'll be back

petit_haggis, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Booked 2 rooms on DBB 2 night "Winter Warmer" deal. The rooms are nice enough as is the hotel in general although the leisure facilities are tired. The changing rooms need to be redecorated but oddly there are beautiful - unused - rooms next to the ladies. Calling it DBB is a stretch - your £25 allowance will not get you far in the restaurant. Even a main and dessert costs more than the allowance. What is more galling, is that portion sizes are not generous and the menu doesnt change. So there were 4 mains (excluding steak) meaning very little choice if you stay more than one night. The desserts are superb though - I cant recommend the tart tatin enough! The £25 can also be spent in the "pub" on the grounds, however this closes at 430pm so isnt ideal for dinner. We opted for the lounge menu on our second evening as we didnt want to eat exactly what we'd had the night before- it transpired there are nightly deals, but these weren't highlighted to us at any point and we had to ask to dine in the lounge. The lounge is actually a thorough fare rather than any kind of dining room so its not the most peaceful place to eat. Items such as the tagine were not available which was not highlighted until we offered and the burger which came with fries actually arrived with hand cut chips. At breakfast portions are small - one rasher of bacon for example. Dont ask to substitute anything, you won't be allowed. It can be hard to flag anyone down for more tea, toast or coffee as the dining room is split. Again, the toast is not plentiful! Overall it was a nice stay, but too many niggles with the food for us to want to return to a Macdonald hotel anytime soon. The area is beautiful and it's worth a trip to felton which has a lovely artists centre with a great wee gift shop.

Lovely break in very pleasant surroundings

brassmonkey858, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
I could go on about how tired the spa and hall are but it's not bad enough to stop me from going back. So apart from that, the food was nice, the staff were lovely especially Michael in the cocktail bar and Tibbi in the restaurant. Although they stood out because we dealt with them most if the time, all the staff were fabulous and worked so hard in a very busy environment. The downside for me was an event which went on until midnight on 1st March and it was so loud that it was impossible to rest or sleep. Reception couldn't do anything about it and it spoiled an otherwise lovely 2 day break.

Grand, impressive, great staff but a few niggles

jmf9, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
Great value stay for business trip. Impressive hotel and gardens with attached spa and alongside golf course. Grand hall with sweeping staircase just beyond the entrance hall and comfortable bar and restaurant. Knowledgeable staff who are professional and helpful at all times. Comfortable room and good breakfast included at a very reasonable price (£70pn). Few niggles - breakfast could be more clearly locally sourced , £3supplement for kippers was a surprise, but they were good - not clear if they were local though. Many furniture items chipped or marked - perhaps needs a little upgrade. Overall, great value and worth a stop off if in the area - there’s lots to do around. With a few small changes it should be 5 stars!
