Overview

The Alnwick Garden is one of the world’s most ambitious new gardens. The Duchess of Northumberland’s vision for a forgotten plot is now a truly 21st century experience full of imagination, inspiration and fun. Designed by Jacques and Peter Wirtz, The Garden is a wonderful combination of spaces, themes, quirkiness and play.

From the tranquility of the Cherry Orchard, the excitement of the Grand Cascade and the mysteries of the Bamboo Labyrinth, to the Serpent Garden’s spell-binding water sculptures, the intrigue of the Poison Garden and one of the world’s largest tree houses – there is plenty to surprise and delight.

The Garden is a space designed to be enjoyed by all your senses, with a collection of over 4,000 plant varieties to discover, thousands of seasonal blooms and countless opportunities to get wet and play in The Garden’s water sculptures

Wow! Brilliant experience

We were bowled over by the gardens. Beautiful and a really good mix of formal and informal sections and great for all ages. Well laid out and lots of interest - for adults and for children. We were especially keen on the water science bits - lots of really good 'interactive' water features that displayed scientific principles - better than it sounds. The Poison Garden tour was good too. We were lucky with the weather - it was sunny and warmish. It was one of the best gardens we've visited.

Outstanding.

Lynne M,
Outstanding gardens. Varied, interesting layouts. You need a sunny, dry day to fully appreciate it. Restaurant and toilets on site. Fantastic fountain display that takes centre stage. Loads of places to sit and take in the beautiful surroundings. Great gift shop with free gin / liquer samples with all thedrinks sold on site.

Cafe

Barry H, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Alnwick gardens was impressive but unfortunately the food is not. Didn't try the beef as it looked tough to eat, decided to have sandwiches instead. Very dissapointed that these were prepacked rather then fresh. I had chicken, my friend had salmon We also chose cheese scone and cake. The sandwiches were within one day of the use buy date therefore very dry round the edges. The salmon sandwich had very little taste, the chicken was ok but bland. The cheese scone looked nice and big but this reflected on its taste, it was more a cake than a scone, very little taste and dry, the cake was the same. We both had drinks which were fine but for a total cost of approx £25 for two was not value for money. There are finer cafes within the area which provide higher quality products. Don't get me wrong but this was my first visit and maybe expected high standards but was dissapointed at what I recieved while visiting the cafe.

Beautiful gardens

I visited with my mother who is in her eighties and most of the garden was accessible. The staff were helpful and friendly. The gardens are amazing. The water features are very special. Lovely touches like deck chairs you can put out on the lawns.
