This fantastic production by Bronek Pomorski brings out the Champagne Fizz of the music and will capture your heart as Count Almaviva aided by his good friend Figaro manages to woo his love Rosina away from her wicked guardian Dr Bartolo. Written in three weeks, Rossini’s masterpiece is one of the wittiest and most immediately appealing comic operas in the repertoire today and is as fresh to the ear now as when it first burst upon it’s Italian audiences in 1816. On first hearing, the utter joy of one melodic masterpiece flowing into the next is thrilling to any audience. As the plot unfolds and is dramatically told through Rossini’s brilliant musical structure, it helps us to understand, in part, the Barber’s special place in the history of opera.
