You may have heard that peat is important, but what is it and why is it so special? Join us to find out, discover and celebrate this precious habitat! Visit a Northumberland blanket bog; discover the importance of upland peat for wildlife, water management, carbon storage and history preservation. Learn how peat can be damaged and see the results of restoration work. Join Chris Jones from Northumberland National Park Authority to explore how the blanket bog fits into its landscape, how it has changed over the last few thousand years and stories of local history. Develop an artistic response to your peatland experience with artist Laura Harrington. This event involves going outside on uneven terrain. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and waterproof footwear such as wellies or sturdy walking boots. Booking is essential. This event is suitable for ages 7+.
