* NEW EXHIBITION - ROBERT NEWTON * COMMENCING 19TH OCTOBER @ THE OLD SCHOOL GALLERY, ALNMOUTH Born 1964, Robert had a career in engineering before pursuing his artistic talent. He studied Fine Art at Sunderland University and is currently living and working in Northumberland.

For this new exhibition at the Old School Gallery, Rob has produced a number of oil paintings, along with watercolours. Rob has also printed monotypes, which are individual, one off prints made from making a painting in reverse and then printing it onto dry or dampened paper. The subjects of Rob's paintings follow a tradition of British landscape painting.

His technique is bold and fluid, using broad strokes to allow for a distinctive take on the beauty of the local countryside and seascapes. Rob's wonderful use of colour captures the unique light and palette of Northumberland. “I describe my work as ‘Painting Nature’, as a direct response to my immediate surroundings, exploring colour, composition and expression.. Making sketches as well my own visual notes I paint intuitively and expressively with bold sweeping brushstrokes that sum up whole passages of the landscape that is before me. Painting on location and in the studio, I often rework paintings intuitively to produce a completed work.” You can preview Rob Newton's work on Friday 19th October from 6pm – 8pm.

The Old School Gallery also participates in the Own Art scheme to enable customers to pay for art with interest free credit. The Old School Gallery Alnmouth, Northumberland 19 October -14 January 2019 Open Daily 10am - 5pm
