This guided “stop & look” leisure ride wends its way through contrasting landscapes . It will leave Wooler heading south towards the entrance to the Harthope Valley at Middleton through a rural landscape with beautiful views over the Till Valley.

A short steep climb and then descent gives access into the Harthope Valley and the easy route follows the road to its end near Langleeford alongside the meandering river. The unfolding views of the high crags and Hedgehope and Cheviot are magnificent. After pausing to wander around the meadows and admire the mountainous terrain, the route is retraced to exit the valley. Then going via the ford at Haugh Head (footbridge available) and stately home Lilburn Tower, and, crossing the River Till, the next stop is the beautiful Grade I listed Norman Church at Old Bewick, followed by a stop at the Grade I listed church at Chillingham with its breathtaking medieval tomb featuring the effigies of a knight and his lady. The way back to Wooler follows the meandering River Till to Chatton, Fowberry and Weetwood.

The Percy Arms at Chatton serves lunches, but if you prefer, feel free to bring your own packed lunch.
