2 night family break

Suzanne H, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We have just returned from a 2 night break at a Springhill Farm and had a fantastic time. The site is clean, tidy and has plenty of pitching space. Everything is well organised whilst maintaining a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The kids play park is great with lots of space for them to run around. The shower and toilet block is clean and well maintained and the showers always hot. It is so nice to find a site that allows campfires, sitting on an evening looking out over the beautiful scenery roasting marshmallows really makes camping for us. We will definitely return.

Hemmell spider Hell

simon b, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Had booked for 7nights at Hemmell cottage from 25th May. On the 1st night when unpacking cobwebs in the bedrooms were very apparent with spiders. Looking at the beams they resembled a scene from a Halloween setting with the quality of cobwebs and spiders. We then tried to rectify this by vacuuming the beams and the tops of the wardrobes which was like a blanket of webs again with spider. The vacuum itself smelt like something had died in it which left a disgusting aroma. When eventually we got to bed after cleaning the cottage. Within the 1st hour there was several spiders crawling across the beam above the bed one which fell onto the bed. At that point my wife refused to stay in the bed and went downstairs and stayed on the settee. The following day We went to Berwick and bought some peppermint oil and spray bottle to spray the bedrooms to hopefully help the spider problem within the cottage during the day we were still coming across spiders throughout the cottage. On the Saturday evening the family were on edge on the number of spiders we had come across. My wife and myself decided to stay downstairs due to still spiders being in the bedroom on curtains, walls, beams. Once trying to settle down when several spiders then crawled out of the quilt we had brought down from upstairs causing further distress and during the night several spiders came out from under the TV unit and across the rug. By this time my wife was exhausted not sleeping for 2nights and recovering from a long illness this was supposed to be a relaxing Holiday for the full family that had taken all year to save for. On Sunday morning we couldn’t take anymore so I went to the site office to complain. I was told by the warden she would speak to Sarah (owner) and give me a call back. The Warden apologised and said she would get the girls around to give it a clean if I wanted which I declined as we were all exhausted due to lack of sleep. We packed up the car and left. I never received a phone call as promised. I then sent an email on my return home, which I never got a response. Myself had to phone Sarah (owner) on the Tuesday when she refused to give any refund as they had offered to clean the cottage on the Sunday. The Holiday cost £952 on which we only stayed 2nights out of the 7. The owners clearly don’t care about there reputation or there customers just the money, if you want a peaceful Holiday look elsewhere. Simon

Underwhelming campsite

_stuartandsuzie, Ivybridge, United Kingdom
We stayed here in our caravan. The overall campsite experience was a little underwhelming. The pitch size was good but close to neighbouring pitches. The toilets were inadequate for numbers and the men in the family had to queue everyday. The showers worked well but the floor was often dirty as the people using them last failed to mop it. Cubicles were also very small. I was surprised that during the stay we never met a staff member or were welcomed in any way. However you cannot fault the location or the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. Well placed for the Beach at Bamburgh and Seahouses.

En-suite Wigwam

rikster21, Staffordshire, United Kingdom
Stayed for 4 nights in one of the en-suite wigwams, which are a new addition for the 2018 season and are fabulous. They sleep 2-4 but I would say are best for a couple or family of 3. The en-suite wigwam features a fully equipped kitchenette with kettle, toaster, 2-ring induction hob, microwave and sink with running water, plus some storage space. Cutlery, crockery, pots & pans and cooking utensils, plus a tea towel and washing up liquid are all supplied, which is fab. (Smoke detector is very sensitive - be aware if you’re making toast!) The bathroom is compact but clean with a fabulous shower. Loo roll is supplied. There is a bed area and a fold-out sofa bed, plus a kitchen table that seats 4. You have to bring your own bedding and towels. The en-suite wigwams are located at the far corner of the site with fabulous views over the sea to the Farne Islands - gorgeous! Outside there is a picnic bench, small decked area and fire pit. I recommend taking camping chairs so you can sit out and soak up the view. Only small complaints were that the WiFi didn’t work (but that wasn’t too much of an issue for us), the bathroom could do with a shelf in it, and the front of the cabin is always in the shade, so if you want to soak up the sun you do have to sit at the back of it, overlooking the camping field rather than the lovely sea view. The site itself is extremely well kept, clean and quiet. Check-in was fab; you just look up your name on the board displayed in the reception window and go straight to your designated wigwam - the keys are already in the door. Overall a hassle-free stay in a lovely spot. Only 5 mins drive to Seahouses. Would definitely come here again and will recommend to others.

Good stay

Walter D, Linlithgow, United Kingdom
Great stay in the wigwam, it was very roomy and comfortable. Very close to the private wigwam facilities. The kitchen for the use of wigwams only was well appointed with all you needed to cook or prepare breakfast or other meals. The staff were friendly and helpful.About a 20 minute walk in to Seahouses from the site.
