Short visit

We were very pleased to be able to book a place only a few days before and found Janice the owner very accommodating to us. Our first room (we had to swap after one night) was lovely with a balcony overlooking the river and was very comfortable. Our second was disappointing - having the same view with a Velux window/balcony. The main disappointment was having our 'en suite' outside the room! The shower here wasn't brilliant and the soap dispenser hardly flowing at all. One window wouldn't shut fully (over the bed) so in the storm and rain that we experienced, my husband slept badly, with a draught all night. There were marks on the bedding (stains not dirt) which is a bit off putting. The selection at breakfast was good - lovely fresh fruit! The cooked breakfast didn't have a lot of taste. The staff on the whole were friendly. We were charged the same amount for each night whereby our two night room was far inferior and at just short of £100 I felt it was a bit steep. Janice provides cakes and fresh milk in the dining room if you want to help yourself. The lounge is beautifully presented also with a balcony. So a mixed bag of good and not so good.

Nice traditional B&B

Decided to stop over in Alnmouth when we were returning from holiday and found this place by chance as most were fully booked. The owner Janice was very friendly and keen to make sure we had everything we needed, including a table for dinner at a local Inn. The attic room we had enjoyed great views over the estuary which were enhanced by the modern velux skylight which converted into a small balcony -what a brilliant idea! The room was very nice, bright and clean. Our two small dogs were welcomed. Breakfast was excellent and there was also parking available outside the house, off road. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Very disappointing

Stayed here for 4 nights and was very disappointed as it was a 5star B&B and I wondered who rated it. Was in a top floor room with sloping ceilings so you could only stand up in the centre of the room. The breakfasts were so disorganised we had repeatedly had to us for things. You had to order your breakfast 24 hours in advance which I have never done before, how do you know if you want a cooked breakfast the following morning! The lounge was like an old folks room with a double mattress stored behind the settee! The only good thing it was clean in the bedrooms. I will not be back.

Lovely Break

We have been to Janice's (who are allowed before but not for a while. We decided to come for my Birthday on the 23rd initially, but the weather was so so good we stayed till the 29th and had a brilliant time Our Son brought us up and He came back on the Sunday with his family and We spent a happy afternoon on the beach which was like abroad and there were many people with families and well behaved dogs(Who ate allowed at this beach) Back to Westlea! The room was gorgeous with lovely furnition and a new en-suite which was luxurious We overlooked the riverside and had our own balcony who h was lovely Janice has been modernising the Guest House and it is very tasteful She showed me around the other bedrooms and it was like am the pages of a good homes magazine ----very impressive The staff are all pleasant and attentive. The breakfasts are delicious and plentiful, with every taste catered for From full English to Craster kippers and Smoked salmon and Scrambled Eggs with fresh fruit salad and cereals of all kinds We cannot praise Janice and family and staff more I think 4 stars are more in keeping for the rating !! We will be back again later in the year---definatelty!! WELL DONE!!

Nothing is too much trouble for Janice at Westlea. This is the third stay and we will come again. The location is great, opposite the estuary and a very short walk to the beach and shops etc. There are a variety of rooms. Two on the ground floor have patio areas and one on the first floor has a balcony. There is also a lounge with a balcony. Janice is so helpful, making tel calls to restaurants to get us reservations etc. She also provides cake and sweets and lots of choice re breakfasts. She likes to take orders the day before as she offers so much choice. The rooms are comfy with all you need. Parking is limited in her car park so best to park by the side of the road opposite. Parking there is free. The area has so much to offer. Beautiful, historic and many beaches to explore. You can also use buses and trains to get about. You can get up to Edinburgh from Alnmouth railway station easily and this is much less stressful than driving there and trying to park. You can also get the train or bus to Newcastle.
