Set in mature gardens, Tillmouth Old School was built in 1867. Closing in 1965, it was then sympathetically converted into a private dwelling that the Hodgson family have made into their home.

Offering two spacious suites, Tillmouth (King) and Podmore (double), both are equipped to a high standard with many little extras to make your stay special. Breakfasts are made from locally sourced produce such as Craster kippers, Bamburgh bangers, Chainbridge honey, free range eggs and homemade preserves. Special diets are no problem, just mention when booking.

For those on a cycling holiday, we have a secure lock-up for your bicycles, and for those who prefer to stay on two feet we can provide guided walks upon request.

Upon arrival there is complimentary afternoon tea with home baking and preserves. We, as Northumbrians, are passionate about our heritage and look forward to sharing it with you.

Buy a gift stay

susan b,
Firstly I’d like to thank my daughter and son in law for buying us this gift and giving us the opportunity to spend the weekend with Judith and Joel, on arrival we were treated to homemade scones with delicious homemade raspberry jam! Pot of tea and a lovely chat with Judith, she so reminded me of my mam with her little sayings that made me giggle “ St. Vitus’ dance “ think that’s how it’s spelt, you do not need to bring a thing everything is provided, bed is blissful, we had a marvellous weekend and the breakfast was fabulous especially Judith’s stewed rhubarb!! Even pinched her recipes, and on leaving we got a jar of jam to bring home and to top it off we even got a Thanku card off Judith and Noel! My only complaint was I wanted to stay longer but will be back 😊

Judith and Noel have a unique B & B. There is everything you would need and so much more. We had tea and scones on arrival which were delicious and a lovely chat with Judith. The room was lovely as was the sitting/dining room. Everything is spotless and we were given a very warm welcome. We enjoyed our chats with Judith and Noel and would certainly recommend this B & B. We have stayed in many hotels and B & B' s but none can match up to this. A lovely couple with a beautiful house.

A wonderful weekend stay

Lynne W,
We have just had a wonderful weekend at The Old School House. The location is peaceful, but also handy for Berwick on Tweed and the beautiful Northumberland coast. Judith and Noel made us so welcome, with delicious scones and just a really friendly approach. The accommodation is so perfect, I loved it here. We saw deer in the garden and all sorts of birds on the many bird feeders. Breakfast was delicious and every care was taken with every detail. I highly recommend The Old School House

Absolute Perfection!

What can we say that hasn't been said already?? Our stay was absolute perfection from the moment we arrived until the moment we left (and very reluctantly we might add!!) despite the very changeable weather including all 4 seasons in one day! . We arrived as strangers and felt like part of the family and wanting to return as soon as we could possibly arrange! Judith and Noel are wonderful hosts, their home is beautiful and so cosy. We had the whole of the upstairs to ourselves - a lovely big room with the most comfortable bed (which ensured the best sleep ever), comfy seating area and dual aspect views over the peaceful countryside, a huge, beautiful bathroom with yet another perfect view and they have every little detail or need you could imagine catered for. We felt very spoilt!! The house is set in the middle of unspoilt countryside but not far away from Berwick upon Tweed, the Northumberland and Scottish Border regions and the stunning Northumberland coast so plenty of places to explore. Judith and Noel are extremely knowledgeable and proud of their home, local and surrounding areas and are more than happy to advise and help you organise your visit to be the best it could possibly be. We noted that guests return time and time again and, for sure, we will be part of this ever-growing group of happy visitors! Thank you Judith and Noel, we had a lovely stay. Hopefully see you again soon. Wendy & Ray x

Heaven on Earth

Judith met us at the door and invited us in to the living room for tea and treats after we got settled in. It was lovely relaxing with her in the living room with a small fire burning in the fireplace. Her husband Noel lit the fire every day and it was fun discussing politics with him. The two of them make this B & B perfect. There are only two rooms and our room was the big one upstairs. It was beautiful! The bed was luxurious and had lots of pillows, the bathroom was large and clean with big fluffy towels. There was a bottle of red wine and one of white upon our arrival and the little fridge had fresh milk for your tea or coffee. We could sit in the two big chairs and look out over the backyard while having a cup of tea in the morning. She also had cupcakes in a little tin which was a nice surprise. It's the little touches that really show how much Judith cares about what she does. In the morning she will make you just about anything you would like, and it always arrived nice and hot. We stayed 3 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. This place is amazing and so are Judith and Noel. I highly recommend staying here.
