Wonderful find!

LouiseEastLothian, East Lothian
Our first visit but would definitely hope to return, everything a bed and breakfast should be - warm welcome, very comfortable room, amazing attention to detail and so very relaxing. Ian and Mary have got the perfect formula for a successful bed and breakfast and deserve all the accolades, absolutely 'spot on', a perfect mix of attentive hosts in a very comfortable home and who obviously enjoy welcoming their many guests. Simple details that make such a difference e.g. fresh milk in the room, a comfortable residents lounge, and a great home cooked breakfast with local produce ( homemade sausages too!) and no, you don't have to preorder your breakfast the night before! Chatton is the perfect location for touring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders with The Old Manse to come 'home' to and the added bonus of the Percy Arms a 2 minute walk away for a meal - perfect!

Lovely place, great hosts

What a great find. We stayed for the weekend and it was great from the minute we arrived. The place we were going to eat on our first night was full and Ian booked us into another restaurant and then booked the original restaurant for us for the following night. Our room was great - warm, comfortable, very relaxing with a lovely view of the garden where we could watch the birds eating from the feeder. Easy to find, easy to park the car. Breakfast is a communal affair with guests sitting at the one table in the conservatory - while this was unusual for us, it was actually really nice to share what we had seen / done and to meet other people. The breakfast menu was great and we both enjoyed our different choices - porridge, smoked haddock, full cooked breakfast, toast, tea, coffee and a vast choice of jam / marmalade. We were spoiled for choice. Ian and Mary are superb hosts and they have gone to great lengths to ensure that their guests have a memorable stay. We absolutely loved it.

Wonderful B&B

Debra C, Leicester, United Kingdom
What a fantastic short break we had at The Old Manse, Chatton. From start to finish it was superb and we feel we have made friends for life with the wonderful hosts Mary and Ian. We stayed in the Ingram suite which allowed our small Cairn, Susie to stay as it has its own private access to the garden. Susie thouroughly enjoyed her stay and there was lots of fuss and treats from Ian and Mary. Attention to detail is second to none and the rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable, the small fridge was an added bonus. The breakfast was cooked to order and very enjoyabl, especially the homemade bread and jams. We have already booked again for next year and have ordered a gift voucher for my son and his girlfriend to have a 3 night stay in the New Year. Thank you from Debbie, Gary and Susie

Great stay

howardmoon66, Preston, United Kingdom
Just stopped at this fabulous B&B whilst doing the great North Run, as all the other reviews state we got a lovely personal welcome with bags taken to the room whilst Mary got us a pot of tea and cake (not for the last time). We were told breakfast was 8.15am and when we said we were worried about not making the start of the race we were told it wasn't a problem to change this to half past 7 so we could get an earlier start for Newcastle, had a lovely smoked haddock and poached egg, with loads of other stuff available, After the race we got a nice welcome back with some more tea and cake in the conservatory and chose a place to eat from the handmade folder provided with personal info on the local places to eat. We had a proper full breakfast the next day with local made sausage and a Northumberland floddie on the side, loads of coffee and toast and fresh fruit, yoghurts etc available. Lovely room as well, even though the cottage room sounds like one of the smaller rooms it was lovely, very clean and a nice comfy bed. Attention to detail is what sets this B&B out from the rest and Mary and Ian seem very modest about what they are doing and expect all B&B's to provide a similar service...….I wish they were all as good as this. I could go into more detail about the beautiful area and other things but all in all we can't recommend this place highly enough

Lovely room, delightful hosts, great location

Trewirgies, Redruth, England, United Kingdom
We loved our room and especially the views from the Windows... veery releasing. Attention to detail was excellent.... USB points for charging phones etc and a fridge with fresh milk, no little tubs! Friendly attentive hosts, very good varied breakfast with local produce where possible. I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying a stay here. Close for a visit to Vanbrugh and other sights, and a perfect stop off for those heading north to Lindisfarne or Scotland Very minor tweak would be to include a lavatory brush in the bathroom. Best views of our 10 days away.
