A true gem of a B&B with great hosts

Gordon A, South Shields, United Kingdom
Despite being a relatively short drive from our home, this was our fist overnight stay in Haydon Bridge. We were warmly greeted by Lois and she made us feel very welcome; a pot of tea accompanied by some sweet treats on our arrival was greatly appreciated. A traditional stone built property, it has been very well decorated and our room was well appointed, with a very comfortable bed. The room and en-suite facility was spotlessly clean. The available choices for breakfast should satisfy everybody, including vegetarians; a custom-cooked 'English Breakfast', consisting of local products, was most welcome (you need to pre-order the night before). This is a great base for tourists, hikers and cyclists. We were only there for a one night stay (wish it had been longer) and we will definitely be returning. Many thanks to Lois and David for making our stay a memorable one.

Excellent accommodation and service

Bordersgeezer, Hawick, United Kingdom
This was our first visit to Haydon Bridge and we required accommodation for an overnight stay as we were attending Hexham races which is about 6miles away. There is ample car parking at the front of the premises and we were warmly met by Lois who made us feel extremely welcome. We managed to get an early check in, which we really appreciated as we had arranged a taxi to pick us up. Our rooms were extremely comfortable, modern and clean and it is obvious that the proprietors take a pride in their establishment. Breakfast in the morning was excellent and caters for all tastes. Can highly recommend

Wonderful B&B near Hadrian's Wall

TomLitaM, Dubuque, Iowa
Shaftoe's is a great place to stay near Hadrian's Wall. Dave and Lois went out of their way to assist us and were helpful and courteous in every way. Shaftoe's was the best place we stayed on our trip to the UK; and Haydon Bridge, Hexham nearby, and the Hadrian's Wall sites were calm, relaxing, picturesque, and filled with amazing history. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Great location

Russell Y,
The review MUST be started with what a gracious host David was! The breakfast was delightful and custom cooked. The lounge was small but comfortable and had a 125 gallon aquarium for amusement. Right across the private parking area is an old pub, The Anchor, which was quite nice for beer & cuisine. The B&B is located at the foot of the historically important Haydon Bridge (now pedestrian only). Across the river were two more good pub/restaurants and the view from the bridge was gorgeous. It was dead quiet at night in my room. The B&B is a short (and pretty) drive from Hexham and especially well located for Hadrian's Wall. I'll be back next year, David!

Excellent service from superb hosts

weeruss, Glasgow, United Kingdom
Stayed on business for 2 nights. From the moment I walked into the property to the moment I left David and Lois were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Spacious room with en-suite. Standard of cleanliness was excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and well presented. I have stayed in many B&Bs throughout the country and will only comment on good ones and I Can honestly say that you will not be disappointed in this B&B.
