The BEST food in Northumberland by miles

Can i just start by saying that this place came to me as a high recommendation by family & friends who have been frequenting its delights, for years. Why it took me so long ill never know, but i will certainly be a regular from now on, that's for sure! Who wouldnt want their perfect little haunt to be located in such idylic surroundings. And thats just the venue. The food is a total different storey... We came on Saturday afternoon, 8th December and all of us had the Christmas Fayre menu. For starters i had the most delicious Goats cheese, beetroot and walnut salad. It was beautifully presented and to be honest it was a shame to eat it. Nevertheless i tucked in and could of easily had another. My husband Geoff had the smoked salmon, i tried it and it was absolutely fantastic. So much so inwas tempted to order an extra one, but decided not too incase i got too full too early (classic, eyes bigger than my belly!) For mains i had Turkey with all the trimmings (stuffing, chipolatas, veggies etc). By far the best turkey ive ever had. It was succulent and not dry at all (i always expect it to be dry as my husband just cant cook at all. Yeah Geoff you heard!) So i was over the moon! Geoff had the Beef which looked out of this world. I had a try and have to especially give the red wine jus, a special shout out. Just wow. For dessert we shared the cheese board and triple chocolate brownie. Needless to say you could have pretty much rolled me out of there. We were so incredibly stuffed. Our waitress (louise i think) took care of us the whole evening. She not only helped us make our food choices but helped the table decide on wine. We had a few bottles of Cintila Red, which i believe was the house wine. Thank you very much again to you all and of course BIG compmiments to the chef. Your food is delicious, your venue is beautiful and your booze is plentiful. We shall be back soon! Sharon, Geoff & Family x

Food poisoning

Went on Sunday with the family for lunch. Myself and another family member had the prawn and salmon starter. Have been ill ever since with diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and a fever!! Horrendous! I will not be returning!!!

We went for lunch Sunday as a treat before we all go mad with the Xmas preparation after being recommended by a work colleague, so what do I say but just WOW how has it took us so long to visit this place . Party of 4 who all had 3 courses at a excellent price, 2 prawn starters 2 soup and we all had the roast beef main then 4 different puds so we could have a taste of each, still not sure how we managed 3 courses as the portions are excellent I think I may have had a Kilo of prawns on my starter, the beef was melt in your mouth and the veg cooked to perfection for us with excellent selection (not the usual mush veg you get in most places). What was a quick visit out for lunch turned into a few hours visit, staff where great letting us have a good rest between main and pud, love the idea of being able to see the chefs busying away with the open kitchen. A beautiful pub, excellent 5 star food with staff to go with it. Will definitely be returning more often now we have found this little busy gem.

Lovely Christmas lunch

Just had an early Christmas lunch with three friends and I couldn’t fault the service, the atmosphere or the food. Will definitely be going back.

Don't have the prawns

Just been for lunch with the family as we do most Sunday afternoons. Unfortunately two of our group had the prawn starter and both are now suffering from food poisoning.
