Layside is gloriously positioned in one of the most beautiful locations in the North of England, providing visitors with a base from which they can enjoy a vast range of memorable activities. Situated in the heart of Northumberland, guests can enjoy some of the best views of the Tyne Valley and Hadrian's Wall country, including the Sycamore Gap, which famously featured in the Kevin Costner movie 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves' and was voted tree of the year in 2016.

A bespoke Breakfast Hamper will be delivered to your door featuring a choice of cereals or yogurt followed by a number of hot options which are cooked to order using quality local ingredients. Hot evening meals are also available on request, cooked in the farmhouse kitchen using local produce and delivered to your door. Layside is fully licensed so guests can enjoy a range of local ales (wine/prosecco/soft drinks also available).

Dogs are also welcome at Layside and will be provided with dog mat, towel, food and water bowls.

Perfect stay in a breathtaking setting

125ChristinaE, London, United Kingdom
Our stay at Layside was perfect. The rooms are located just down the drive from the owner's home in a purpose built cabin facing onto a beautiful view across the countryside. The rooms are bright, spacious and beautifully decorated with sliding doors out onto a private patio where you can admire that view. The owner's have thoughtfully considered every detail; luxury bed linens, eco friendly toiletries, and delicious breakfasts served in the privacy of your own room. It was so refreshing to have something a little bit different than the usual Full English offered along Hadrian's Wall Path. It's about a 20 minute walk off the Hadrian's Wall Path near Steel Rigg. We really could not fault it, a very special place to spend a night during our walk.

Best stay on the walk

Kevin and his wife - Sophie I think - have just finished building these three beautiful modern log cabin type accommodations. So very new with excellent quality fixtures and fittings (this is not always the case with newly built accommodation and they can get shabby quickly because of it - this will not be the case here at Layside). Please do stay at this wonderful spot probably located on the best part of the Roman Wall. The accommodation was the best we experienced during our six day walking trip. Glorious Hypnos beds with fresh crisp white linen. Fabulous shower and fluffy white towels ... all most welcome after a long days' walk. Bertie our black lab was made to feel very welcome (they have one too). We brought his bed but there would have been one available if we had wanted.. Bertie even had a sausage specifically for him on the breakfast tray. This aforementioned delicious breakfast was brought to our room. Kevin picked us up from the local pub and brought us home. There are three rooms available so would be fun to fill them all with your friends. Thank you both for your meticulous attention to detail. Highly recommend.

Just brilliant

Amazing place with a wonderful host Kevin. The lodge has stunning views to the south across some beautiful Northumbrian scenery and, whilst it's around 1.5 miles from Steel Rigg, it's worth the extra walk. That being said Kevin offered to pick us up (he dropped us off in the morning though!). The bed was perfect and the bathroom ideal. Bloody brilliant!!

Magnificent B&B for Those Hiking Hadrian's Wall

DrRich4BNA, Nashville, Tennessee
After a day of serious hiking along the Hadrian's Wall Path, we could not have asked for a better place to stay on the Hadrian's Wall Path than Layside. Kevin was a brilliant host! He came to pick us up from the Twice Brewed Inn and took us back to the trailhead the next morning. The rooms were modern, clean and exceptionally comfortable. We enjoyed a fantastic view from our room. Our dinner was phenomenal (I believe prepared by Kevin himself) and breakfast was a unique treat that differed slightly from our standard full English along the trail. Despite not having WiFi (not Kevin's fault, the infrastructure has been put into place) we enjoyed one of the nicest lodgings during our almost three weeks in England. I would gladly stay here again and highly recommend Layside to anyone traveling in the area!

Great spot
