Hello Dick and Margaret welcome you to Hall Barns and hope you enjoy your stay.
Hall Barns was originally called ‘Thawle Barnys’ there was a tower here in troublesome days of raiding and a mention of it dating back to 1541.
We moved here in February 2006 and have had the house refurbished to 3 letting en suite rooms for short or long stay. There are 2 twin rooms and a family room which can sleep 4, also a sitting room with TV and a log fire in the winter, of which you can sit and relax after your day of walking or site seeing. In the summer you may sit in the garden and enjoy the peace and quiet, the scenic views around you have a barbecue or just watch the sun set. To the east you will see a large castle of which is Chipchase the Torday family reside there today.
This is a working farm belonging to a large estate the owners Allgood family live at Nunwick Hall. The village of Simonburn is a small hamlet part of the estate as is many of the surrounding farms. In the village there is a shop, a beautiful church, well worth a look, which is a 5 minute walk away. Surrounding areas is Hadrian’s Wall (with its many Roman sites), National Forest Park, Hexham Abbey and the historic town of Corbridge. We have easy access on uncrowded roads to Kielder, which is the largest man made forest and lake in Europe. Newcastle, Gateshead and the unspoilt Northumbrian Coast, Durham, Carlisle, Alnwick and the Scottish Borders are all within visiting distance.
This is an ideal location from which to enjoy the peaceful North Tyne Valley. You can go walking, cycling and nearby facilities offer opportunities to go horse riding horse racing, canoeing, bird watching or fishing of which the river North Tyne is renowned for its salmon.

06/11/2018 | Welcoming, relaxing stayditravels1629, Annapolis, Maryland We stayed here one night while walking Hadrian's Wall. The husband picked us up from Chesters Fort and his wife greeted us with tea when we arrived. The home-cooked dinner was tasty and filling. I especially appreciated the bathtub in our room which was stocked with a lovely muscle relaxing soak, it felt good after a few days of hiking. The location is away from any traffic so we got a good night's sleep. The breakfast in the morning was great and we took advantage of the packed lunch too. All in all, a lovely stop. |
23/09/2018 | Walking Hadrian’s WayShirley S, Largs, United Kingdom We reached Hallbarns Bed and Breakfast after a wonderful day’s walking on the Wall. We arrived just before the sun disappeared and the rain started for the night. We were welcomed by Margaret and her daughter and enjoyed a warming cup of tea on arrival. Our room was well appointed and the ensuite also included a bath which is an extra bonus when walking. There was even Radox to ease away aching muscles. We enjoyed a wonderful evening meal, freshly prepared and in a homely surrounding. The next day we set off after a great breakfast and we were even offered a lift back to the Wall. |
03/09/2018 | Hadrian’s WallJulieIles, Southampton, United Kingdom Such a beautiful place to stay at! On our walk there was even a collection from Chollerford in the evening and a return the next morning. Our room was beautiful. The hospitality was exceptional. Our evening meal was more than enough, beautifully presented and tasty. Breakfast was ditto and included homemade ham and marmalade. I don’t think I need to add anything else! ❤️ |
10/08/2018 | Wonderful overnight stop with a super hostessKodachrome25, Manchester We stopped off at Hallbarns for one night during a walking holiday. It’s on a working farm. Margaret, the hostess, not only provided top quality accommodation and food, but also a big dose of fun. This is happy, easy-going place. I loved it. |

The room was quite comfortable and the dinner and breakfast were excellent. In short, it was a welcome and restful stop along the Hadrian’s Wall walk. |
