B&B that goes above and beyond.

Thank you to Denise and all at Brookside Villa. On arriving after our first day of walking (35 miles) from Bowness-on-Solway she was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Stew and hot showers were ready for us as soon as we arrived. Denise made us feel extremely comfortable and welcome, even allowing us to have dinner in dressing gowns! Fantastic stay. We would happily come back for another visit - though perhaps with less miles to cover. Thanks Denise!

Like staying with old friends

myUsernameToo,
We stayed at the Brookside Villa for one night when we started our 3-day walk along Hadrian's Wall. We loved everything about the place and highly recommend it for anyone looking for lodging around Gilsland. We were walking west to east and were going to start from Gilsland, but Denise said it was worth starting a mile or two further west at Birdoswald. She even offered to drop us there in the morning after breakfast. That was just the first example of how Denise and Gerry go above and beyond to make our stay there the best possible. We had arranged to have an evening meal there. Even though we wanted a light meal, it was exceptional. A wonderful bean soup, bread, a side board of cheese and grapes, and all topped off with peaches with yogurt and a bit of honey. They keep a selection of beverages and snacks for sale in the guest lounge and we selected a local ale to top off the dinner. The room was very large and gave us room for sorting gear and clothing for the walk the next day. Little things like the cheerful yellow towels set it apart. It surprised us how much of a difference that makes after room after room with white towels. The breakfast was superb with variations on the traditional English breakfast. Plenty to choose from. We purchased pack lunches for the day and had more than enough to get us through the 12 miles walk. The accommodations were great, but it was Denise and Gerry themselves who made the stay a real pleasure. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations and can hardly remember laughing so much. They are a joy. And Denise, if you're reading this, be sure to let us know when you're ready to hire a breadmaker...

Just an odd vibe

squaremary2017, Toronto, Canada
We were a large group, so we asked in advance if the host would prepare us an evening meal. There was back and forth consultation, we agreed on a meal and a price. It was delicious, varied, filling. The mood was somewhat ruined, however, when we were told after dinner that coffee would cost a pound! What is the point of that? Everything else was wonderful, but the price signs on the snacks in the lounge, things like charging for a cup of coffee, just put us off. Despite the great meal, the beautiful garden, the comfortable beds, this was far from our favourite spot on our tour.

A great, well run B&B to stay at close to Hadrian's Wall

AJB346, Stockport, United Kingdom
We stayed here 2 nights whilst walking Hadrian's Wall. This is a great B&B, friendly, well run and comfortable. The room, facilities, food and care were of the highest professional standard and nothing was too much trouble. Denise and Gerry were generous in sharing their local knowledge and expertise and kindly offered us a lift back to where we had walked the day before. The food deserves a special mention, lots of choice for breakfast and packed lunches. I would not hesitate to recommend Brookside Villa and hope to stay there again. Thank you
