Overview

Alnwick Lodge enjoys a picturesque setting close to the A1 trunk road. The Lodge and surrounding grounds has been home to Peter Smith since 1976, joined by Evelyn in 1994. During this period West Cawledge Park has been tastefully transformed from a dilapidated Northumbrian Farmstead to provide Alnwick Lodge.

Fifteen well equipped guest bedrooms all with en-suite facilities, individually decorated and furnished to the highest standard ranging from singles, doubles, twins, family, to a magestic Four Poster bedroom.

The antiques in the bedrooms are all for sale. Locally sourced produce including fresh fruits from the orchard feature in the splendid breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals are available if ordered in advance. Children and dogs are welcome.

The Lodge offers superb accommodation for private guests, corporate events, film crews and wedding parties, a unique location to host house parties tailored to your own requirements. Four public rooms set around the floral courtyard.

Lonely Planet recommended.

Antique Galleries, log fires, glamping and camping with ample parking.

Alnwick lodge stay

Cath B,
Fabulous accommodation, very friendly, helpful hosts. Nothing beats a glass of red by a roaring fire in beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended. Excellent breakfast. Just a lovely place to stay. Thank you

Our NYE quiet retreat

sueshone1, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We have stayed a few times in Alnwick Lodge and have always loved it. This time was no exception. We stayed in the Red Bath room which was perfect for us. A beautiful hand made double bed with pretty bed linen all crisp and clean. A sitting room area with a lovely big bath. Also a little en suite room with toilet and wash basin. We have read a few negative reviews about Alnwick Lodge and I think that some people must arrive with completely wrong expectations of what the place is about. So I hope this review helps you. If you like uniformity, straight edges, sparseness and clinical surroundings with no soul or creativity then you need to book into a Travelodge or similar. And if you like magical, intriguing, creative and unusual then this is the place for you. You may find small unfinished jobs and the odd overlooked cobweb but we find that these things just add to the charm that is Alnwick Lodge. Come with an open mind and a sense of adventure and you won't be disappointed.

Characterful & Friendly!

LaraPomeroy, Macclesfield, United Kingdom
My dad and I stayed at the Alnwick Lodge, for a weekend stay in Alnwick. It was quite difficult to find as we arrived in the dark and the turning was very sharp. We were invited in to a roaring fire & the whole place had a rustic, quirky & characterful vibe. The lady that met us and showed us to our rooms was very friendly & welcoming. Our rooms opened out onto the courtyard & I do think they wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but I thought they were charming! I couldn't get my radiator to work (that could have been just me as I was quite sleepy!) I had a little heater in my room though which warmed it up quick enough. Tea & coffee making facilities were in the room, the bed was very comfy and the shower was lovely. Its not luxurious, but I really did find it charming! The breakfast is served at a large table, which wasn't really to my liking as I don't feel particularly sociable in the morning, the other guests seemed to enjoy it though! There was a limited selection for breakfast and the vegetarian cooked breakfast was just the full English without the meat...it would have been great if there was a vegetarian alternative with veggie sausages or something like that.

Quirky

Lorraine D, Durham
Really quirky and quaint. Loved how all the rooms were set round the courtyard. Decor was so cute. Breakfast was lovely..cooked breakfast plus cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurt and a delicious fruit compote. Lovely surroundings in the breakfast room and we made new friends round the table! Disappointed we didn't meet Evelyn as we had heard such lovely things about her.

Not luxurious

johndennisharrison, Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom
Although staff were helpful and accommodating the room booked on arrival was cold damp and uninviting. this room wasn't fit for purpose, for example the bed was far to high to easily get on and off,and the TV was small and too far away to watch comfortably. When we complained we was offered another room, that although smaller was more practical and warmer. My partner has disabilities which made the problems worse, maybe it would be a good idea for our original room should be labeled "not suitable for people with disabilities " The breakfast was fine, and the owners very helpful when we complained.
