The fourth edition of the Berwick-upon-Tweed Film and Media Arts Festival will be taking place from 28-30 November 2008. The theme of this year's Film and Media Arts Festival, INNER STATES, echoes the geographical and historical status of Berwick as the most disputed town across two British nations, a unique state of inter-dependence at the root of much destruction, pride and confusion over the centuries. The focus of the programme will be on films that explore states of independence, turmoil and peace: visionary directors, haunted heroes, beleaguered nations, maverick spirits, all mapping the confused geography of the human psyche, pushing boundaries - and drawing new borders. The whole event kicks off with a gala screening of the fantastical expressionist silent classic 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari' (1919) with live musical accompaniment by the highly acclaimed duo 'In the Nursery'. Over the following two days we will be again showcasing exciting moving image work, which will include retrospective screenings, international fiction and documentary features, award-winning shorts and specifically commissioned work by local and regional young people. This year's event will be taking place in collaboration with Northumberland Lights' THE STATE OF BERWICK, a spectacular celebration of the culture and heritage of Berwick-upon-Tweed through light and cinema in a variety of settings across the town.
