Northumberland's Golf Trail is a paradise for pros and amateurs alike, offering quality, variety and the ultimate in challenging play, set amongst picturesque surroundings with an abundance of luxurious nineteenth holes. Many of the most spectacular courses are attached to luxurious hotels such as Slaley Hall, notable for the championship 18-hole course; a PGA European Tour venue nicknamed the 'Augusta of the North'. Tee-off at Matfen Hall in the shadow of the elegant country house, renowned for challenging obstacles and beautiful surroundings. Nearby, Hexham Golf Course lies in beautiful parkland, as does Bellingham with its floodlit driving range on the border of Kielder Water & Forest Park. Linden Hall, near Morpeth, Arcot Hall and Bedlingtonshire all boast similarly challenging courses with stunning backdrops whilst Longhirst Golf Club has two 18-hole courses to choose from, including the Florida style 'Championship' course, dotted with intimidating ponds and lakes.

Fabulous links courses with panoramic views of sweeping golden sands and ancient castles scatter the coast. Alnmouth's Foxton Golf Course is England's second oldest, dating from 1869, whilst the views at Bamburgh Golf Course are truly unique, with five castles visible at tee-off! There are fabulous seascapes too at Seahouses, Dunstanburgh Castle and Warkworth Golf Courses. One of the finest links courses in the country can be found at Goswick, whilst 'The Lang Wang' at Alnwick Golf Course, 100 years old this year, is renowned as a true rite of passage for any keen golfer!

Alternatively, play the beautiful meadowland fairways of Rothbury Golf Club, bordering Northumberland National Park with spectacular views of the Cheviot Hills and Cragside, the delightful Allendale Golf Club in the dramatic North Pennines or charming Haltwhistle Golf Club, where Hadrian's Wall runs past the course.
