The Official Visitor Site for Northumberland
Situated by the lovely South Tyne and in the heart of the North Pennines is the stone-built village of Slaggyford. 100 years ago it was prosperous enough to build a Methodist church and Sunday school. This has now been converted to a guest house and renamed Yew Tree Chapel by its artistic owners. David works in stained glass and Mary is interested in sculpture. All the bedrooms are en suite with showers and hip-baths. Each room has TV and drink making facilities. Guests also have access to the spectacular lounge. Walkers doing the Pennine Way and cyclists doing the Pennine Cycleway are well catered for. Yew Tree Chapel is situated right on the path, provides drying and laundry facilities, and safe storage for bikes. Evening meals are available by arrangement. Fresh ingredients are used and vegetarians and food allergies can be catered for.
Yew Tree Chapel was featured in Border TV's "Hot Property", is the fascinating home of an artist couple. The guests lounge is spectacular and the whole renovation is a colourful blend of historical and modern features. Set in a mature garden it nestles in the sheltered South Tyne Valley 4 miles from Alston. It is right on the Pennine Way and is ideal for walkers and cyclists.
From their visitors book:
" Dear David and Mary, Thank you for our delightful stay at Yew Tree Chapel. We had a great time and I forgot to tell you that we had seen a red squirrel when we were walking out on Sunday, is such a beautiful area! Derek and I were extremely impressed with the work that you had done on the chapel, the accommodation and food was very good. We hope that our paths will cross again one day. FS."
