The Official Visitor Site for Northumberland
Northumberland's breathtaking scenery provides an inspirational location for adventure sports. Our unspoilt river valleys, rolling moorlands, rugged hilltops and sweeping coastline harbour challenging crags, devilish singletrack, purpose-built outdoors centres and open sands and water for high-speed activities.
Experience some of the country's best rock climbing in Rothbury and Coquetdale and at Simonside Crags in the Northumberland National Park. Gimmerknowe and Ship Rock, just west of Rothbury provide arguably the best spots in Britain for bouldering and indoor climbing can be found at the Concordia Leisure Centre in Cramlington, ideal for beginners.
Northumberland is a mountain-biking haven. Explore the wilds of the Cheviot Hills and the North Pennines or test your skills on the technically demanding mountain bike trails that wind themselves through the trees at Kielder Water & Forest Park. Raise your adrenaline levels and make a splash on the coast - Druridge Bay, with miles of firm sand, is one of the best locations in Northumberland for powerkiting, kite-surfing and landsailing with tuition provided by the Northumberland Powerkite Club and Northern Freestyle. Take to the water in a sea kayak, with views over sandy shores to coastal castles north and south or dive with seals amongst shipwrecks off the Farne Islands. Alternatively, take a quad biking safari at Woolaw Farm near Otterburn or go skiing and snowboarding with Ski-Allenheads in the The North Pennines. It's such good terrain, the British Norwegian Ski Club have their ski-tow here!
