The Official Visitor Site for Northumberland
Northumberland is packed full of attractions that capture the imagination and provide unique, unforgettable experiences for all. Our beautiful country parks are set amongst fantastic countryside, with clear rivers, mature woodland and wide open spaces. Take a winding woodland walk through the trees and along the riverside at Allenbanks or barbeque in the sun at Bedlington Country Park. Bolam Lake is particularly famous for outstanding birdlife and great fishing whilst Plessey Woods harbours abundant wildlife, including deer, otters, kingfishers and woodpeckers. Feeling energetic? The lake at Druridge Bay is ideal for windsurfing and the beach has miles of golden sands making for inspiring strolls, whilst the kids will love the nature trails and play areas at Wansbeck Riverside Country Park.
Our many wildlife centres allow you to get closer to the species that call Northumberland home. Hauxley Nature Reserve at Druridge Bay and Whitelee Moor in the Cheviots are just two of our many bird watching paradises, whilst the Sanctuary Wildlife Care Centre andWhitehouse Farm Centre near Morpeth and the Highland Cattle Centre in Stocksfield are great fun for children. Create your own piece of pottery at Pot-A-Doodle-Do near Berwick-upon-Tweed or take to the countryside on a quad-bike safari.
For a wet and wild time, the kids will love Waterworld in Prudhoe or Amble's Castlemania with indoor play centre and go-karting, just two of Northumberland's great swimming pools and leisure facilities. Alternatively, step outdoors during spring and summer - County Shows and village fetes are a great way to discover Northumberland's traditions.
