The unique value of our historic buildings and special places to visit has been recognised by the experts and that means many of them are looked after for the nation by the National Trust.
The trust's portfolio of properties in Northumberland includes Cragside House, Gardens & Estate, home of inventor and industrialist Lord Armstrong, and Wallington House, Gardens & Estate, near Morpeth, a magnificent mansion set in extensive gardens and parklands.
Two of our most famous castles, Lindisfarne Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle, plus parts of Hadrian's Wall are also owned and looked after by the trust.
You can visit theThomas Bewick birthplace museum at Cherryburn and railway engineer George Stephenson's cottage near Wylam which often have events celebrating their famous former residents.
The Farne Islands, famous for its fabulous bird life, and Allen Banks and Staward Gorge - a site of special scientific interest - are also owned by the trust.
Although there is an initial cost, becoming a member of the National Trust will certainly save you cash if you and your family want to visit more than two or three attractions while you are here.
