Overview

Warm, spacious, well-equipped cottages in peaceful, coastal locations, near cycle tracks and walking routes, between the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the pretty village of Bamburgh. We also offer one of the UK’s most unique and romantic places to stay - the beautiful Ducket. This Grade II listed stone tower was originally an 18th century dovecote but has now been restored to 5* accreditation with 21st century facilities.  All our properties have Wi-Fi.

To make use of the superb night sky and star gazing opportunities in Northumberland, we have a purpose-built star-gazing observatory at Outchester, complete with state of the Pro 120mm Pro Refractor telescope. This is free of charge for all guests.  Extra telescopes are also available.

Guests can also enjoy a Pelican 15.15 three-bench canoe and use the large mobile barbeque for outdoor eating.

The 65ft high Ducket is the perfect 5 star couples’ hideaway retreat. Warmed by ground source heating, the tower has five floors with a quaint, circular room on each floor. An open spiral staircase connects each floor. The Ducket has magnificent panoramic views of Lindisfarne Castle, the sea and Cheviot Hills from its top floor.

Our 16 cottages at Outchester and Ross come in various sizes and sleep 2, 4 or 6.  All are extremely well equipped and five are heated by wood-chip boiler.  Each cottage has its own off-road parking, as well as private, well-maintained gardens with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Three of our cottages - Wagtail, Curlew and Hedgehope Cottages - are dog friendly.

Five cottages at Ross are close to the family farm and three cottages are nearer the sea along a private road. All Ross properties are walking distance across the dunes to lovely Ross Sands.

A superb five star cottage, The Beacons, at Ross sleeps four, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, free-standing stove, smart kitchen, sitting room and a large garden.

At Outchester, the cottages are situated around attractive, landscaped grounds, with play area for small children and include two 5-star cottages each sleeping two.

We offer visitors the perfect location – off the beaten track, yet still close to Northumberland’s beautiful beaches, magnificent castles, charming market towns, the Farne Islands, Holy Island, the Cheviot Hills, Alnwick Gardens, and the Border countryside.

AK

AKirkconel, Salisbury, Wiltshire England
Stayed in the Ducket for 4 nights in September. Had a fantastic time walking the dramatic Northumbrian coastline and exploring castles - incredibly lucky with the weather. Loved staying at the Ducket and marvelled at how skilfully this tower has been converted to such comfortable well equipped accommodation. Particularly liked the gorgeous views (can see Lindisfarne) and close proximity to all other highlights. Outside space is immaculate and pleasure to return to after days out. Wish our holiday had been longer. Hope to be back

Outchester & Ross Farm Cottages replied: Many thanks AK for taking the time to write your review. It is much appreciated.

Very special holiday home with dark skies

dawnbracken, Chelmsford, Essex
Fabulous holiday home, so interesting and well equipped. We loved pulling into the drive when people were stopping to take photos. It made us feel really special. Great location for visiting the Northumberland costal area, so convenient for the A1.

These cottages are highly recommended; we have stayed here many times over the years.

CityBoy50, Essex, United Kingdom
Our first time at Wagtail cottage, Ross; a family party of seven people, plus a dog (you can hire a Z-bed for an additional cost). Over the years, we've stayed at a number of these cottages, both at Ross and at Outchester. Our favourite is the Beacons, which is ideal for two people, as you get the extra space in a two-bedroom cottage, and there is a reduction on low occupancy. Both sites are ideal for family visits; you can hire as many cottages as you need for the size of your party. We love Ross because it's more private than Outchester, and there is easier access to the adjacent beach, Ross Back sands. You can only walk there from the cottages and it takes a good 20 min, but it's well worth it. Over 3 miles of golden sand, with hardly another person in sight. The owners of these cottages have continued to invest in them order to maintain their high standards. The photos on the website give an accurate picture of what you will find. Northumberland is also a fantastic part of the country to visit. We've almost always been very lucky with the weather, albeit that it is unlikely to be as hot and sunny as down south. But, you don't have the crowds that you get on the beaches there. This will definitely not be our last visit. Hopefully, we can come again during the breeding season on Farne Islands. It's a fantastic site if you are keen on observing our feathered friends. As for places to visit, eat, etc there's plenty of helpful advice on the website. Enjoy! PS Make sure you visit Chillingham Castle.

Outchester & Ross Farm Cottages replied: Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to review our cottages. We're pleased you enjoy the bird watching in this part of the world and that you enjoyed your stay here. Kind regards Kate

Relaxing family holiday

Donna L,
These cottages we came across on the Internet at a last minute decision to visit Northumberland were a great find. Parking for 2 cars per cottage and very spacious properties. Handy entrance porch to leave dirty shoes and hang coats, leading into a large farmhouse type kitchen which is well equipped including its own washer and dryer which is great as normally in these types of holidays you have to use a shared laundry room. Large comfy lounge with lots of information leaflets and lots of books. 2 lovely bathrooms, one with a great walk in rain shower and one with a large bath The master bedroom is very spacious with a dresser and mirror and stool and great storage for your clothes The other bedroom on the ground floor is a nice twin bedded room Both have roller blinds and pretty floral material Blinds also Upstairs is another twin bedded room which is really costly with a pointed ceiling and roof lights And this is next to the large bathroom, so ideally a private area for older children or a relative Lots of storage within the property for your luggage and other things The outdoor areas are lovely and quiet and safe for children to roam and play with a nice climbing frame made out of ropes over a sandpit A resident cat strolls around the grounds There is a gas BBQ available for use also Would stay again if in the area

Outchester & Ross Farm Cottages replied: Dear Donna Many thanks for your review of our cottages. Very much appreciated. Kind regards Kate

This is our third time staying at these cottages. They are in the middle of beautiful rolling farmlands and convenient for local attractions including the beautiful Ross beach. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
