A traditional country pub and restaurant near the historic market town of Hexham. The menus are interesting and varied, freshly prepared using local produce wherever possible. The bar has a wide range of beers and an extensive selection of spirits, wines and hot and cold drinks. Meals are served in the restaurant or bar with its log fire, or on sunny summer days in the beer garden.

Stopped for lunch on way home from cycling tour. Ordered tuna sandwich and ploughman. Sandwich was on stale bread and ploughman's very mixed. Really good ham, chutney and pork pie. But then let down by poor quality cheese and a plastic baguette. Expect much better for the top end pub prices.

Lovely lunch

Visited with my sister and grandad for lunch, was very impressed! Food was lovely and great portion sizes. The choice of food was great too, took me forever to decide on what to have! Even stayed for dessert too. Would definitely recommend. Also noticed there was a good choice of Gluten Free meals, which was good to see!

Sunday lunch

This was our second visit for Sunday lunch, and the food was wonderful on both occasions. The lady who took our order (possibly owner) was very helpful and accommodating, when I explained my son was a fussy eater. My husband had Lamb, and me and children had roast turkey. Very generous portions including kids meals. Meat and vegetables very tasty and perfectly cooked, but my Yorkshire pudding was burnt and hard. Highly recommend for Sunday lunch and will visit again.

The Boatside Inn is an attractive country pub beside a rural stretch of the River Tyne and near the lovely village of Warden. The pub has a very good chef producing delicious food. We both had Bacon Chops topped with swirls of softened Leek with a Cream and Cider sauce. The bacon and leek melted in the mouth and the sauce was perfect. I had chips which were freshly cooked, but I am a not fan of the skins being left on-a minor niggle. The other vegetables were cauliflower, broccoli and carrots which were fresh and nicely cooked. A very pleasant and satisfying experience. In addition, for those with a sweet tooth, I understand that the chef bakes his own cakes.

better and better

took my mum and other half out for a long lazy lunch at the boatside yesterday - 3 and a half hours later we headed home!! i've been going here for over 30 years and can honestly say it's never been better, the staff are great, atmosphere is warm, welcoming and relaxing, beer is always spot on and the food is restaurant standard, correction, better that quite a few. we started with a sea food sharing platter, supposedly for two but more than enough for the three of us. for the mains i had a chicken and tarragon pie, the pies are always delicious and as with most courses are 'generous' my wife had duck and it was sublime. for deserts i can highly recommend the plum, cherry crumble it was out of this world, my 83 year old mum said it was the best crumble she'd ever had and i'm pretty sure she's right. since we were last there, only a few weeks, they've installed a little kids playground, so well as being dog friendly it's now kid friendly! can't recommend this place enough, do yourself a favour and visit
