Morpeth is counting down to the fourth annual Food and Drink Festival which takes place this year on Saturday October 1st.

New features have been added this year and it promises to be the best festival yet with more than 100 food and drink traders attending from all across the North East. With something for all the family, this year’s festival is expected to bring thousands of visitors into the town for the event which runs from 9am till 4pm.

New activities this year include an O2 music area which will be located on Bridge Street throughout the event providing tunes to mark this fabulous festival with Bin 21 serving Prosecco and Pimms. There’s also a new picnic area in the Millennium Green and this year’s Sausage Fest will be joined by a new Gin Bar at Sanderson Arcade.

With a vast range of traders flocking to the festival, there will be something for everyone to try. There will also be food and craft stalls in the Town Hall and Bridge Street will be home to more than 60 food and drink stalls.

The Morpeth Market Place and the Town Hall will host more traders as well as the popular demo  kitchen which will be located in the Market Place - the heart of the festival – where local chefs will cook up an array of  delicious recipes.

Some of the chefs who are taking part in the demo kitchen include David McDonald from Geordie Bangers, Jimmy “The Lamb Man” Bell, head chef of Café des Amis- Deanner Carter and the curry genius- Abdul Muhit from the Morpeth Tandoori.

The head chef from Sambucca Morpeth will also join the line up as well as the former London Ritz chef John McKale and Capital FM’s Matt Baker will be presenting and taste testing throughout the day.

The popular “Morpeth Jam” competition is back for its third year being hosted in the Morpeth Chantry alongside the returning “Best Scone” competition.

As well as scone and jam making competitions, this year will mark the first “Pie Competition” which will also be taking place in the Morpeth Chantry. For those interested, judging will start at 11am with the winners announced at 1pm.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers band has once again confirmed their attendance and will be marching along Newgate Street at 11:30am followed by a performance at Sanderson Arcade.

The Morpeth Food and Drink Festival is organised by the Morpeth Food and Drink festival committee with sponsors and supporters Taylor Wimpey,  Morpeth Town Team, Northumberland Council Sanderson Arcade, Stratstone Tyneside and More in Morpeth Market.

Medi Parry Sanderson Arcade Centre Manager and Food and Drink Festival committee member said: “We are all really looking forward to the festival. A lot of hard work has been put in to making this the biggest event yet and we have lots going on across the town.

'We try and add something new in each year and make the event bigger and better and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all the sponsors and supporters who help us to make this a really successful event for the town.”

Travelling to the festival is easy with a free park and ride service that will be available for the full day operating every 30 minutes from County Hall and Morpeth Bus Station. This service will operate from 8am until 6pm.
