Inaugural Picnic Games 2016
We are excited at South Tynedale Railway to announce our Inaugural Picnic Games, where we hope to encourage your inner athlete, to inspire you to greatness, and to encourage your very British sense of fair play.
Join us this bank holiday weekend on 28th, 29th, and 30th May, where plenty of family fun can be had! Try your hand at Quoits, risk a tumble on a game of Jenga, and test your skills on the croquet lawn.
There will be fabulous scenic train rides throughout the day to take in the glorious countryside, and as usual you can pay once and travel all day. We’d love you to spend the whole day with us, so why not combine a train ride with one of our delicious picnic boxes? Tickle your tastebuds with an ‘afternoon tea in a box’ which consists of sandwiches, scones, and a hot drink. There will also be boxes for the younger family members.
We’re looking forward to some superb live music for your listening pleasure, with local bands playing on the platform giving passengers a good send-off, and welcoming them back to the station. We have a tricky treasure hunt, and crafts in the Discovery Centre for children, and a brain teaser of a Picnic Games Quiz for adults.
A visit to our Discovery Centre is also a must, with an exhibition on the 40th Commemoration of the closure of the line, and the permanent display of the “rise, fall, and rise again” of the railway.
