There's less than a month to go until the start of the the Clennell Trail Marathon/10 Mile run. A trail run set in the majestic Cheviot hills it is aimed at all types of runners from newbies to dedicated athletes. The only requirement on the day is that you have fun.
The trail run takes place at Clennell Hall Country House on Sunday 2nd August. Participants are more than welcome to come and stay the night before and enjoy the hospitality of the hotel. At the hotel itself there are rooms, bunk rooms and free camping on the grounds. Nearby you will find a large selection of B&B's to choose from. however, you had better be quick as the event has already filled a large number of these choices.
Why not use the event as a base to go and explore this fantastic countryside. August in Northumberland is positively jam packed with tourist destinations to suit your needs. Golden beaches on the coast, hill forts and castles all over, market towns, stately homes, top class outdoor activities and so much more.
The marathon distance takes the runners from Clennell over to the beautiful Usway Burn and lets people take a well earned breather at Barrowburn tea room before heading into the big hills along he border. Peaking at Windy Gyle before letting gravity take its toll and wind the way back to Clennell these hardy souls would have taken on over 3500 feet of climbing.
The ten mile route is a delightful course that veers up onto the high ground before taking the meandering route back through the atmospheric Kidland forest. The quick people will fly round this short route and even the slowest will have a nice walk round in just over 3 hours.
High Fell Events organiser Barry Kemp talks about why the event is here.
"It's a fantastic place here in the Cheviots and it's about time the sporting masses came and enjoyed it too. Our goals are simple; to improve the local economy, to enhance tourism, to raise money for charity and to give people an amazing experience in the outdoors."
The Clennell Trail run comes on the back of the overwhelming success of the Clennell Colossus mountain bike challenge which saw 300 riders take on a gruelling 50 mile route. Working closely with local interests, there are plans for more adventurous outdoor based events this year and next. To sign up or for more info please visit www.highfellevents.co.uk
