Eshott Hall welcomes the arrival of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s 300th Birthday

Go green with this historic botanical short break

As we head towards Capability Brown’s 300th Birthday, Eshott Hall has created a bespoke gardening break to celebrate and explore Northumberland’s botanical offerings associated with this famous landscape architect.

Mark Rawlings-Lloyd, General Manager of Eshott Hall says: “Our Garden Break is a must for any avid gardener looking to explore the work of Northumberland’s most renowned landscape designer.”

Eshott Hall is located a short distance from seven gardens which have connections with Capability Brown. These include his birthplace Kirkharle, Bavington, Capheaton Hall, Wallington Hall, Rothley, Hartburn Vicarage and the Alnwick Pastures. These are not all open to the public, but all are a testament to his love of the county where he was born.

The Garden Break is priced at £450 per room based on two people sharing, and combines a two night stay at this beautiful boutique hotel, afternoon tea for two on arrival, a bottle of wine in your room, entry to two gardens, and a Capability Brown book detailing his work all over England.

Your garden visits will include an opportunity to appreciate Capability Brown’s initial work at Wallington Hall, and will complete by enjoying the beauty of Alnwick Garden. Eshott Hall itself has magnificent grounds available to explore, where you can also find their working kitchen garden. Produce grown within the gardens is then used to create award winning food in their 2 AA Rosette restaurant.

Originally from Kirkhale, less than an hour’s drive from Eshott, Capability Brown spent the first 23 years of his life in the little village where he served as a gardener’s boy at Sir William Loraine’s seat at Kirkharle Hall, it was here where he first learnt his craft.  From then on, and throughout the course of his life, he designed over 170 parks, many of which visitors can see today, including Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle and Croome Court, where he also designed the house.

Mark Rawlings-Lloyd, General Manager at Eshott Hall, commenting on the break said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers this Garden Break, so that they can truly see the gardening delights we have on offer here in Northumberland.”
