BELSAY HALL, CASTLE & GARDENS HOSTS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

BBC RADIO 4 GARDENERS’ QUESTION TIME

On Monday 1st December Belsay Hall in Northumberland will host a special Christmas recording of BBC Radio 4’s highly popular show Gardeners’ Question Time, which will be aired on Boxing Day at 3pm.

Eric Robson chairs the celebrated panel of gardening experts, tackling the questions put to them by local gardening enthusiasts, here in the atmospheric and festively decorated library of Belsay Hall. Inspired by the temples of ancient Greece, the Hall is set within extensive gardens, which includes the enticing Quarry Garden, a plant-lovers paradise filled with exotic plants and maintaining its own micro-climate.

Comments, Debbie Charleton, Site Manager Belsay Hall;

“We are really excited to be involved in the Gardener’s Question Time recording here at Belsay Hall. The Middleton family moved into the Hall on Christmas Day back in 1817 and this is such a lovely time to visit – we plan to create a truly special and Christmassy event for visitors.”

Tickets cost £4.50 and include a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. They are available to buy through English Heritage Customer Services on 0870 333 1183. Doors open at 5.30pm with recording starting at 6.30pm.

Gardeners’ Question Time is a Radio 4 institution, attracting over 2 million listeners each week. Recorded in a different location every time, the long-standing radio programme has answered over 30,000 questions since it began in 1947. The panel members have been guests on a diverse range of gardening clubs and other organisations and do not see the questions prior to the recording.
