HRH The Prince of Wales is to arrive in Alnmouth Station by Tornado steam train next week to  start a two day  trip of the Northumberland coast.

HRH will arrive at  the station along the east coast main line around lunch time on Monday 23rd July  to embark on  first official visit of the county’s  coastal communities.

The Prince of Wales will be visiting Warkworth, Amble, Holy Island, Bamburgh and  Seahouses and will be highlight small family businesses and community volunteering in the area.

During mid-afternoon on Monday 23rd  The Prince of Wales, Patron, Abbeyfield, will meet residents and staff during a visit to Abbeyfield House in Dial Place, Warkworth. Residents wishing to welcome the Prince are advised to stand in Dial Place.

The Prince of Wales will then travel to Amble to  meet volunteers and local artists at the Pride of Northumbria Community Shop, on Queen Street and meet community groups, young performers and local fishermen.  The best place to welcome the Prince to the town will be in Market Square.

In the late afternoon The Prince of Wales will meet local blacksmith Stephen Lunn and view examples of his work during a visit to JS Lunn & Sons, The Forge, Red Row. Stephen specializes in making art from steel and other metals including a new set of gates for Alnwick Castle.

The prince will visit RAF Boulmer and local company Proof of the Pudding before stopping overnight at Alnwick Castle as a guest of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.

On Tuesday 24th  the royal visit will start the day on Holy Island where The Prince of Wales will hear about the work of the Holy Island Partnership and the Lindisfarne Peregrini Landscape Partnership as well visiting the newly refurbished Lookout Tower.

Dick Patterson, Chairman of Holy Island of Lindisfarne Community Development Trust said,” The development trust is working with people from the parish council, Natural England and National Trust through the Holy Island Partnership and it is a real thrill for me to be able to meet  The Prince of Walesand show him our work.”

In early afternoon HRH will visit the Grace Darling Museum at Bamburgh and will  also hear about the history of Bamburgh Castle from the Bamburgh Research project.

He will then join some volunteers undertaking a beach clean-up and survey. The Prince is President of the Marine Conservation Society and has a keen interest in the programme of work to reduce litter on our beaches.

In mid-afternoon the royal party will head to  Seahouses where  the Prince will meet community representatives and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Young Rangers where he will have  the opportunity to talk to them about the practical work they do to help conserve and enhance the Northumberland Coast.

Northumberland County Councillor  Pat Scott, Chair of the AONB Partnership said “We are delighted that The Prince of Wales has chosen to visit the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  It is a wonderful opportunity to highlight some of the work that the AONB Partnership does to conserve and enhance the coast. His Royal Highness will meet some of our volunteer beach-cleaners who not only clean the beaches but record what they find as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s project and I am thrilled that he will be able to chat to them. They do a great job and are real ambassadors for the AONB.”

The Prince of Wales, President,  The National Trust will then go to Low Newton-by-the-Sea to meet local residents, staff and community representatives during a visit to The Ship Inn and Microbrewery.

HRH will finish his trip to Northumberland with a tour of The Alnwick Gardens and he will open Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food centre at the Garden.
