Overview

The Duke of Wellington Inn is nestled in the Tyne valleys village of Newton just off the A69 near Corbridge, within easy access to Newcastle, Hadrian’s Wall Country, Hexham and Northumberland’s National Park. The inn has recently reopened following an extensive refurbishment.

The new décor reflects the traditional country inn history but with a modern twist. Existing oak and stone has been enhanced with modern colours, furniture and fabrics. Lunches and dinners are served seven days a week in the bar and dining room. The food provides traditional British comfort eating to an exceptional standard and makes use of local, seasonal ingredients. A comprehensive range of beers and ales compliments an extensive wine list.

The inn experience continues with seven bedrooms providing a very high quality of luxury accommodation. There is an internal cycle and golf club store along with a boot room for those visitors who favour a less relaxing country break. The outstanding views across the Tyne valley provide the ultimate conclusion to a visit to the Duke of Wellington which will stay with you long after you leave.

Disappointed!

Eric P, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Been to the Duke of Wellington several times and always satisfied and praiseworthy . However, we booked for Sunday lunch last weekend and very disappointed, Yorkshire puddings were rock hard, as was , the roasted potatoes (really struggled to get a knife through them!),the roasted carrots appeared to have been cremated! The broccoli was soggy, all in all, it suggested that the food had been " warmed up and not quite freshly prepared" for serving!

The Duke of Wellington Inn replied: I would like to thank you for taking the time to write about your recent Sunday lunch experience with us. It is only through feedback such as yours, that we are able to maintain, and where necessary improve the service we provide. We are disappointed to read that your recent visit didn't match up to your previous ones. I can assure you that all our food is freshly prepared but please accept our apology and we hope you return for Sunday lunch again soon.

Really lovely ambience and great staff. Whole section for dog owners. Kids menu , specials, veggie, set value menus - lunch and dinner. Absolutely awesome chicken pie , the burgers were huge and yummy. Reasonably priced and really delicious. Free wifi. A great find.

High quality hotel with excellent food

Joe R, Workington, United Kingdom
Stayed at this hotel for a week whilst working in nearby Prudhoe. Excellently located in a small village/ hamlet the hotel provides a peaceful atmosphere and great views over the surrounding fields. Friendly staff run both the hotel and restaraunt in efficient manner. The whole of the building is clean and very well maintained. The only downside for the building was that the bedroom was very warm. I had to leave the windows open and run a cooling fan for a couple of hours each evening to bring the temperature down. The food in the restaraunt was excellently cooked and presented. However, the menu choice was limited. After 4 nights I had samples over half of the menu. Also breakfast is only served from 8.00am, which is good for holiday makers/ tourists ( who are probably the majority of the hotel's clientele) but was too late for me, as I had to get off to work. To be fair, though, the staff did offer to provide tea, toast, cereal, etc. if I wanted it from 07.00. Altogether, a very good hotel, which was also reasonably priced, that I will certainly use again
