Best Gin and Tonic ever!

Golbourn, Renfrewshire, United Kingdom
We stayed one night in an upgraded room and loved it. All of the staff were smiling and friendly, the grounds were pretty although only daffodils out at this time of year and the overall feel of the hotel was very good. We enjoyed a gin and tonic before dinner and loved the way it was presented with juniper berries. The dining room was very attractive and the food excellent. I found the bed and pillows particularly comfortable and therefore had a good night's sleep. My only very small gripe is that I could not get the jacuzzi bath to work. The switch was not in an obvious position. We will definitely return to this lovely, friendly hotel in the near future.

Excellent hotel

Shortlyyork, York
Our children bought us a two night stay as a Christmas present and in a word it was 'wonderful'. On our arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our room by Lee, who is a credit to the hotel. The room was lovely, however on opening a window there was a noise from the swimming pool extractor fan which would have disturbed us as we sleep with the windows open (there was no noise with the window shut). We rang reception to ask if the fan is turned off at the end of the day and Lee arrived a move us to another room, this was done with absolutely no fuss whatsoever and sincere apologies for the inconvenience to us! This room was even lovelier than the first, but both rooms were spacious, very tastefully decorated with fantastic bathrooms. We ate both nights in the restaurant, which is a wonderful room in itself. The food was absolutely delicious (do try the black cheese... It is actually black!) and the staff were attentive and friendly. Breakfast was a similar feast, set us up for the day. The hotel grounds are lovely and the surrounding countryside and beaches made this a wonderful short break and probably one of the best Christmas presents we have received from our children... We will definitely return to Doxford Hall again.

Nice weekend breaj

Sue T, Huddersfield, United Kingdom
Just returned from a nice relaxing weekend at the hotel. Staff were excellent and very accommodating nothing too much trouble and everyone very friendly. Spa was nice and relaxing and just what we needed to relax. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent with fantastic service. Our room was an upgrade and whilst large and comfy did lack some attention to detail on the cleaning although overall was ok. The windows did rattle with the wind and woke us both and we had to wedge paper to stop this in the middle of the night after working out what was causing the noise. Overall an enjoyable weekend.

Worst night sleep ever!

Di T, Wallsend
Hubby & I visited on a dinner bed and breakfast & evening meal allowance voucher deal. We looked forward to our night away without our girls. On arrival very impressed. Lovely building & met by friendly welcoming staff only to happy to help. We'd had to upgrade room firstly extra to stay on Saturday night & again as they had no standard rooms left for the day we wanted to visit. We were given large corner room with lovely big bathroom, all seemed well at first glance. On closer inspection paint was peeling, dressing table wood was slightly broken, dirty cobwebs above shower & bedroom carpet needed really good clean. The pool and spa area is lovely although again needed a thorough cleaning-dusty spindles in the seated area & odd cobweb. Not too busy we enjoyed our swim & time relaxing in jacuzzi. Dinner was lovely although my husband kept using the words too pretentious and small portions(he'd have preferred a decent simple steak & chips). Staff again were amazing, only too happy to advise and we were served quickly. Trouble started when we went to bed. A typical wet & windy night as expected in the area. The windows rattled & it sounded like a loose shutter was being slammed all night. Lucky if we got a couple of hours broken sleep. Informed reception next morning to be told we should have asked for wedges for the were we to know that??? I'd considered ringing down at 2am but was frankly too shattered to walk round to the phone & didn't want to be perceived as a nuisance guest complaining about the weather? Hindsight! Full English Breakfast was lovely and again service was quick and with a welcoming smile. We ended our stay with spa treatments-thoroughly recommended. The ladies were gorgeous they're sole aim to help us relax after our all night session with the weather. Overall I enjoyed the experience although ironically I'd have had more sleep at home with the children. The hotel is in need of a bit of refurbishment. I don't think the room was worth the extra money we had to pay & if it had been the premier inn I'd have had full refund for no sleep lol. I would go back if fair price. I'd recommend you try staying yourself just don't be afraid to ask for window wedges or earplugs lol.

Excellent spa day

LBAnortheast, North east
Spent a wonderful day with my friend on a voucher i'd bought her for her birthday present ...the lunch alone made it the best £55 I've ever spent! The pool, jacuzzi and sauna were great , a bit disappointed the steam room wasn't working but heyho things break. We were slightly taken aback when we were told we had to dress for lunch as on other spa days we've been on we had ate in our robes, but to be honest when we saw the wonderful location of the restaurant and the fabulous food we were presented with made us glad we weren't sat in our robes it just wouldn't have been right. The staff in the restaurant were lovely and very friendly we were given a 3 course menu to choose from, I checked with the waitress that our voucher only entitled us to 2 courses which she confirmed but told us we could have the third course and pay the extra which was fine but we choose to buy a glass of wine instead! There was another couple of ladies there the same day who complained from the moment they got there about everything!!! we work too hard for our money to just complain about everything ...£55 for 2 was a brilliant price!! Our only disappointment was we couldn't stay over and had to go home😟. We will definitely be looking out for the next voucher and will definitely be back. Thank you.
