Nice meal but dreadful hotel

rallenby2017, Winchester, United Kingdom
Our party booked 4 rooms with private dining to celebrate a family member's birthday. When we shown to our room (room 3 Ford) the heating was on and the room was very warm so we immediately turned OFF the heating but left the window closed due to being on the ground floor. This turned out to be a big mistake but I will come back to this. We then met our colleagues and had our private dining. The meal was very nice but when we returned to our room it was like sauna ! We opened the window but it took what seemed like forever to get to sleep due to the intense heat. I finally fell asleep but was awoken by the sound of somebody having an electric shave in another room. When I closed the window I was horrified to discover the window could not lock so our possessions had not been secure during our stay. In the morning we saw our colleagues in their rooms to discover our room was at least half the size of their rooms which were all together and located on the first floor despite us paying the same price as everybody else ! We pointed out our issues when settling our bill but only received a half hearted 'sorry' with no offer of any compensation. That morning I had to drive to Winchester on the south coast when all I wanted to do was book into another hotel to get some sleep! I would recommend dining at Doxford Hall but you will get a better service and night's sleep at a Premier Inn. I will not be returning to Doxford Hall which is a shame because the building itself is a delight.

A good stopping off point

King_Kanute, Kettering
We stayed here for just the one night to break a long journey. This is a hotel and spa that is set in 36 acres of Northumberland. The hotel is warm and welcoming and the rooms are spacious and have some nice touches of luxury. Being a Spa hotel the place is busy during the day but as evening falls the place mostly reverts to the residents and perhaps a few locals out for a treat in the hotel dining room. On the whole I found this hotel to be nothing special, sure its of a high standard and the staff are all very friendly, but to me it was a little dispassionate. The food was good though, particularly the fish dishes fresh from local ports. I also enjoyed the breakfast where I have to say the bacon in particular was excellent. I would recommend this place but I don't think there is enough there to make me want to go back.

Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa

raymond m,
We have just had a return visit to Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa for the fourth consecutive year. I think this speaks for itself! We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay on our way home. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are all individually named and we have been delighted to experience a different room each time.... all very comfortable and good! The food in the restaurant is excellent. Our only disappointment was to find that the hotel is completely booked up for Hogmanay 2017 and also 2018!!! We would highly recommend a stay here even though it is rather expensive ! The hotel staff do suggest however to watch the website for offers. Hazel and Raymond

Amazing Wedding

We chose to hold our wedding at Doxford Hall and we are so pleased we did! The run up to the wedding was expertly handled by Sophie who ensured all relevant suppliers were in check and everyone was on the same page. On the big day, Ben (our Master of Ceremonies) did a fantastic job of keeping everything on track and keeping us calm. The staff are friendly and approachable and can't do enough for you. The food was fantastic and the venue looked amazing. Our guests loved it and we had the most incredible and unforgettable day. Bedrooms are huge and the breakfast is superb. I struggle to find any fault at all with Doxford Hall - we had the most perfect wedding. Thankyou to all the team for making the day so special.

Quiet and restful location

og84, Los Angeles, California
This is an old manor house that has been converted into a hotel (and spa). The location is somewhat isolated but that is also part of the attraction...the tranquility. Its far enough away from the A1 not to have any motorway noise. The approach roads get rather narrow, but your navigational abilities will be rewarded when you arrive. The Hall is visually stunning and the interior is well furnished. The rooms are not overly large, but certainly sufficient in size, this is not a place to stay if you are seeking a super modern business hotel with every convenience (like lots of electrical sockets to charge all of your electronics). However, the historical aspects, carpets, draperies, furniture, paintings light fixtures and decorations all create a very strong ambiance. The staff is very well trained and at least for our visit was very helpful and polite. The numbering of the rooms is a little confusing so pay close attention when the receptionist hands you your keys. The main hall is surrounded by manicured gardens. THis would be a great place to host a special event Both dinner and breakfast were very good, the service extremely good. We would suggest staying here for more than one night, its a good base from which to explore Northumberland. .
